Throttle Issue ?

I was pulling into the marina today, and while maneuvering to my slip, I had a problem with my throttle for my port side engine . For a moment it was stuck in the forward position. After playing with it (pulling on back, pushing in, pulling harder) I was able to get it into neutral and didn't have any additional problems with it while docking.

It startled me, as there have never been any problems with it until then, had been out for the entire afternoon, both at anchor and cruising around. I was in fairly tight quarters when it happened and with it being stuck in the forward position, was beginning to wonder how I was going to pivot it into the slip, or even get it to back, back out into the marina.

Has anyone else experiences this ? It is obviously something I am going to have MM take a look at (the boat is under warranty), but just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar issue, and if so what it was.

Thanks,

Could be as simple as needing a shift cable adjustment.

I had the same issue two days ago. The throttle was stuck in forward while the drive was stuck in reverse. I think it was caused by overshifting from reverse right into forward. If you're in open water here's how you can free it. Remove the top cable (on the top of the engine port side) and put the throttle in neutral. Replace the top cable and remove the bottom cable (going to the drive). Start the engine, grab the bottom cable end. Pushing it towards the transom is reverse, pulling it all the way towards the bow is forward, and the middle position is neutral. When it's in neutral replace the cable. I did this and all was well. I had no problems the rest of the day.

The cause is still up in the air. It could be a worn shift cable going to the drive or sticking shift lever in the upper drive housing. But I suspect it's caused by operator error, at least in my case. Do you remember shifting too fast, while the engine was revving above idle?
