In looking at "Surf" bowriders I noticed that those of similar size and style with Bravo4s have at least 12' more depth than similar Volvo FWD units. I know hull designs effect this but that's a huge difference. Any thoughts? Searay 260 Surf 48" draft!
Thanks!

From Boating Magazine:

A disadvantage of the forward-facing drive is its inability to trim above the boat’s bottom, whether for shallow-water navigation or trailering. The props—which cost $2,100 a pair to replace—will be the first thing to hit a speed bump, so be careful.

The bottom line: Mercury’s Bravo Four S offers sterndrive surfability with very little compromise.

That would cause a lot of problems at the ramp not to mention configuring a trailer to haul it.
