I see West Marine is selling the Kuuma Stow-and-Go fresh water marine grill for $86. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...toreNum=10124&subdeptNum=11371&classNum=11405

I can pick up a pedestal mount for an additional $60.
I would mount the grill on my rear swim platform and stow it in it's own cradle underneath the seats when not in use, so I don't think exposure will be an issue.
Does any one have any experience with this grill/pedestal? I was just about to buy the Magma Newport (maybe infrared) grill and pedestal for significantly more money. What say you?

It's not made with the mirror finish grade SS so I guess it will start to corrode if used in a salt enviroment. That's one of the reasons it's so cheap. Shouldn't be a factor for me. If I find myself in salt water, then I've seriously screwed up and taken a wrong turn somewhere!

just bought one at the boston boat show for $49(show deal, could'nt pass it up) only boat in fresh water and can buy a rod holder mount for 20 somthing......should be fine, hopefully:huh: I for one believe you get what you pay for and am hoping that is not the case here but for the price worth a shot

I've got a Kuuma that looks like that. It's mirror finish, but not infared. It works great. The quality is very good as well. I can't see that my dad's magma party grill (or whatever it's called) is any better, especially for the money.

mine is sh!t. Replaced with a Magma Newport in less than a year.

Boughtabuoy is absolutely right - the Kuuma is crap. I bought one summer before last. It lasted two weeks (the amount of time I was gone on a trip) before I brought it back to the marina for a full refund. The heat generated by the BBQ tarnished the metal on the first use and after a couple of uses, the lid twisted with the heat. They used a really cheap grade of stainless on the one I had. Replaced it with a Magma Catalina, and haven't looked back.

Note that I boat in the Great Lakes so the thing never came within 400 miles of salt water...

There's a big difference between inexpensive and cheap!

Do yourself a favor and go for the Magma. I have a Catalina and we use it everytime we are out. Mounted it on the side of the boat near the transom door.

I bought the Kuuma last year...used it for entire season without any problems. Purchased the rod holder and it works great. It doesn't drip all over the boat like my old Magma use to.

I have been using one for about 2 years. It's OK, usually not big enough for the amount of food we bring. It was good for the money. Another idea that worked great was a stainless grill my father got from Costco. Around $100 and is a little larger than mine, also can fit a griddle on it. I made a mount for it that fits in a rod holder he has on the back of his Crownline. Had to fold up the feet on the grill and through bolted an aluminum plate to the feet so I could mount the grill to the swivel rod holder adapter. Wish i had a picture of it, really has worked awesome for a few years now. Cabela's carries it to, here is a pic.
