SRV 200CC , Hummingbird depthfinder and an array of worthless inaccurate gauges
Engines
350 Merc w/Alpha drive
My old boat is a 1979 SRV 200 CC. I found the boat on craigslist after I was just about ready to call it quits and start looking again this winter. The article said 79 sea ray 21' for $1,200 that cought my eye. I read the listing and it said someone stole the outdrive but it still runs good. I called the guy thinking it would be gone because it looked nice in the pictures, and he still had it. After some negotiations we struck a deal and I went to Port Clinton OH and looked at the boat, it had been sitting for 3 or 4 years but covered. The floor and transom was solid thats all I knew to look for really I know nothing about boats but I am very mechanicly inclined bein that I have built a car or two. I hooked the boat to my SUV and pulled the boat out of its grave where it had sat for years and the trailor had sat for 10 years, tires shot. I made a the 250 mile trip back home just fine and the next couple days pressure washing and vacuuming, the interior came out nice, the cabin has been reupholstered at some point and is in excellent shape. It has 2 back to back seats that are not very attractive. they aren't ripped or torn just a design from the day and not my taste however by spring new seats will replace the old style seats. The motor looked really good with polished aluminum Edelbrock Valve Covers and a performer Intake with a newer quadrajet carb. He said it was a 305 and turns out after I got the casting numbers off the block its a 350 a brand new 350 not a 305 like he thought. He also thought it was a 21'. He said he spent $2,300 putting the new motor in and he used it a couple times that summer and pulled the boat out of the water winterized it and sometime after that someone stole the out drive. Last night I threw in a new battery primed the carb a couple times and the thing run like brand new EVERYTHING works all the cockpit lights that light up the floor, navigation lights, dash lights, interior cabin lights ,all the pumps, step down pump, the bildge pump, the blowers. I got on ebay and somehow managed to obtain a alpha 1 gen 1 260 outdrive and a 21 pitch stainless prop for cheap. the boat has a nice moring cover thats in perfect condition that I put on when I got the boat home. I'm gonna take it to a Marine mechanic and hopefully have it on the water next weekend. This is my first boat and hope it serves me right, bein a Sea Ray I thought it has to be all solid. Its nothing fancy but I like the lines of the old boat. As of now I have about $1,200 in this boat with me buying a new battery last night to start it. I was shocked about how good it runs I just hope the rest is good the tansom sounds like a piece of slate when tapping it. The bottom of the boat has some kind of coating on it. I'm in the process of removing the well worn striping around the boat I don't know how to post pics but I will post a couple. What else could I look for in the structure of the boat its sat covered for I know 3 years the drain plug was out so accumilated water could drain any pointers might help but I'm pretty sure it's good to go.

The boat is a little rough, it's definently not a new boat, however after just pressure washing and a extensive vaccum she looks 10 times better. I'm pretty sure she will buff out nicely. I'm in the process of removing the old striping thats on the boat. The old boat runs great, I just hope the outdrive I bought will work, I thought it came with a Alpha 1 Generation 1 up until I started reading these forums. Now I'm thinking it had a MR or 888 I don't really know. It's not a new boat by any means I wanna get it on the water as soon as possible then this winter I'm gonna refinish all the teak in the interior of the boat, wire me in a nice sound system, and 2 new seats maybe replace the back to back seats with new ones or get a couple pedestal wrap arounds. I have only $1,200 in the boat with me buying 1 new battery I wanna turn me a nice profit to someone that will take care of the boat but again I might just keep it because I do like it. but who knows
