This is Cool, Just want to share

Thanks for sharing, great PT story

I've seen that PT boat on the water in Portland. It, and the guys who restored it, are pretty impressive.

What a task to undertake, and with such incredible results. Growing up there was a PT moored in Newport Harbor, CA. I used to row or boat past it as often as I could. My buddies and I would gaze in silence for a long time and then start talking about what it must have been like to actually be on one. If I remember right, that one was PT 79, and looked to be in pretty good shape, less the more obvious armaments. The story around there was that JFK had been on that one. I don't know, but it was fun to pass on the rumor.

I've seen that before, definately a cool story. I can barely work on a boat as it is, I can't imagine doing it in my 70's!!! I sure wouldn't want the fuel bill for that beast though 3,000 gallon fill up of 100 octane and 500gph at WOT!!! :smt101

That series of videos was awesome. One of the most amazing things about the implements of war from that time is they were designed by engineers using slide rules, not computers. Amazingly, the all fit together and worked just fine....as history has shown.

I'm always astonished by what our country was able to achieve during WWII. not just on the battlefield but on all fronts, especially the engineering (sorry as an engineer I tend to geek out over it). the story of the P51 mustang is my favorite, designed and built what would be the best fighter plane of the war in less then 102 days. That's incredible even by today's standards! sorry back to drooling over PT boats:grin:
