Thinking about underwater lights - AM I CRAZY ? boat is in the water all year long....

Trim tab and hull mount. Drilled under the platform to run the wire out of the water. No problems with anything. I put some Vaseline on them and there good for like 3 months. Just re-apply.

Both of my Lumitecs failed within two weeks of each other at year 4, both requiring another haul out.

Mine are installed on my cored transom, and with as much uses they get, I would probably probably refrain from installing them on the next boat if there is one.

If I was closer to the keys where the water was clearer, perhaps but they don’t get much use here on the Caloosahatchee. Truthfully, even at 6000 lumens a piece you can barely see them in the murk standing on the platform

But man were they bright in Lake George in upstate New York!

Didn't you have to screw the hull mount ones into the hull? Wouldn't that count as a penetration?
Yes but 3/4 screws don't go all the way thru the hull. The wire goes up and in above the water line.

I totally understand the concern, but I’ll bet there are lights you could just adhere to the transom with 5200 and run the wiring up above the waterline .

Decided that as much as I loved the lights on the last boat, I'm too stubborn and unwilling to compromise.

The BANG just aint worth it !

THANY YOU ALL for the input.

I know you made up your mind, but I was at the boat show last weekend and saw this. Thought it might tickle your fancy. It’s a trim tab mounted underwater light.

THANK YOU !

As much as I loved the lights on the 10 meter, (I think I had 6 Lumitech) likely mounting a pair on the tabs would yield far less light. That coupled with the fact that this boat is not on a lift as was the previous boat, I am going to let the underwater lights idea go.

I'm no fun anymore

I saw a smaller version of this while attending the AGLCA Winter rendezvous this week:

Easily hung off the swim platform while at anchor, run the temp wire to the cig lighter, or add a quick connect in the lazarette.

Great for anchoring out and at 12 volt no galvanic corrosion risk (like the one I had with the six 120v underwater fish lights from 2 years ago)

Thoughts?

BEST !
