1. A searay takes on water quickly if the plug is not fully inserted into the drain hole. :smt100

2. The 1100 gph sump pump is not sufficient to deal with the problem in paragraph 1. :smt089

3. You should always carry a spare sump pump and hose in the boat.

4. Your sea tow membership is completely worthless and they should be run out of the country. :smt013

5. That little red button on your radio really works.

6. The radio works better with the antenna up!

7. The coast guard is a first class operation

8. When the admiral takes the boat out you need to make sure she has written instructions for operation of all equipment on the boat no matter how long she has been boating. :smt021

9. The reason you carry a hand held gps in your car is so you can find from shore where the admiral is adrift and sinking your boat :smt101

10. You should always keep a spare set of swim trunks in your lexus so you have something to wear when you swim out from the beach to your sinking boat to put the plug back in the drain hole. :wow:

11. No matter what happens on the water, the most important thing is that everyone comes back safe.

Well, I think you can surmise what happened.

Well....the good news is that you won't forget to put the plug in EVER again.....(Don't ask me how I know this)

Ouch! I hate to rub salt in your wound but pics of this event would be kinda cool if you have any.

.

Not good. When i trailered I kept at least one extra drain plug in my tool box on the boat. Never had to use it but i rehearsed how I'd save myself if caught in this situation which may include using a big toe temporarily. Never have understood why builders don't have a one way valve as a back up in there like my sump pumps.

Hypothetically, we hope such a boat would still be in good condition?

My wife hasn't taken the boat away from the dock by herself yet but she keeps telling me she's thinking about a "girls" day on the water. After your experience I'm glad my boat doesn't have a drain plug.....now where can I find some REALLY big fenders?????

When I trailered, I always zip tied the plug to the steering wheel, when you are on the water and notice something hitting you hand everytime you turn, well...you get the idea.
I hope you made it to the boat and installed the plug before she became a wreck dive.

LOL. Hey, the admiral loves to take the girl friends with her and they have big fun. My only advice is to have her do everything a couple of times with you on board before she starts doing it on her own. It's one thing to watch and another to do it.

Was this on your 240 DA? Why not keep the plug in all the time?

Not a good day for you... Hopefully everything is okay...

Since I rack it I never like having the plug in because I want to get any water out and have a dry bilge. I can tell you some stories about failed bilge pumps and filling up a boat on a lift that would hurt your head.

The boat is at the mechanics. New starter, generator, new seals, replace all fluids, pump out gas, wash down and corrosion x, ..... , new carpet ... it may never end.

I said if you are going to sink the boat, be in 25 feet of water not 100 yards off shore and mark the spot on the GPS so we have a good fishing spot.

Next time, just put it in gear and get up on plane. The water will drain out if your moving fast enough.

I did a similar thing with my jet ski. I launched it from Liberty State Park in Jersey City on the Hudson river and rode it all the way out to Jones Beach. (about 30 miles, mostly in the ocean) I only noticed the problem when I got off plane coming in the inlet and started sinking.

Sorry to hear about your incident. It made for a funny post. Glad everything turned out OK.

Reminds me of the old family boat when I was growing up. We never had a bilge pump...and after a good rain storm would have to get it up just before plane and pull the plug for a few minutes.

I'm all for blaming things on girls, but I'd like to hear her side of the story. :smt001

Sorry for your troubles. Glad to hear it wasn't a total loss. Don't think about it. Let the mechanic and insurance co. handle it. Look forward to getting back on the water with shiny new parts. If there's any $ left over see if they can replace the carpet with an upgrade. Something real plush.

I'm impressed. Your wife must be a competent person to handle your vessel.
