JUst got word of my financing approval of the 1996 370 Sundancer I was looking at. Next is the survey and sea trial. I want to have the engine compressions done and oil analysis. Is there any thing else I should look closer at?

Also putting in new Lowrance HDS 10 with Radar to replace the old Rathion 21xx radar and new Standard Horizon DSC VHF. The boat still will have the Northstar 951 gps in it even though I cant get updated maps for it.

Should be able to close on it by mid Febuary as long as all checks out.

I keep my boat in Colonial Beach VA on the Potomac so if any one over my way let me know.

The boat should have 7.4L engines. Make sure your mechanical check includes cooling system inspection and pressure check for leaks. Look at the anti freeze bottles if they are low or just been filled up you may have a leak in the coolers, exhaust rizers or a head gasket that is starting to go.

Obviously have the mechanic put in new plugs as he's doing the compression check. Have him keep the old plugs in a way you know which cylinder they came out of. I'm assuming you're doing the genset as well so the same thing applies there.

Worse case is that you'll find an issue and have given the current owner some new plugs at your expense.

When you do sea trial run engines to full RPM and see if temperature will steady out. Mine go to 180 and hold. See if boat will do advertized speed.
Near full load generator for half hour watch temperature and AMPS on the meters. I like to run mine at 75%.
When starting engines have some one watch exhaust for colour of smoke coming out. Make sure you tell owner you want engines cold when you start them. If they say it will cost too much fuel remind them it is your fuel if you buy the boat. If they will not let you run things up you may have problems later.

Good Luck w/the purchase Barry, I can't wait for some pics of her!!
