They excepted the offer

Well that took a turn for the worst my salesman just called and the seller is not willing to reseal bow rails and address any moisture problems. After seller talked to the service department he said he does not want to open up a can of worms to address the problem so the hunt is back on.Thank you all for your support and advise but I'm not buying someone else's problems.Kudos to Tom Vickers at Skipper Buds for looking out for my best interest.

Damn, that's too bad but a heck of an endorsement for a survey. Lots of quality boats out there and like you said not worth getting into someone else's problems.

Smart move! When you buy a used boat, you are buying the bones more than anything. Known moisture issues when be a huge NO for me. There are plenty of the size range you are looking for out there. Check out the 320DA as well, I like the layout better than the 310DA.

Worst case, you know where a 290 that holds water really well sits!
Sorry about the emotional roller coaster, but good on you for being able to walk away.

...and I don't know why he's calling me emotional! :)

Seriously though, if you find a boat of that age with no moisture readings whatsoever, I'd distrust the survey!

 That's what I was going to say... may not be a deal breaker for me.

Sea Rays of that age are bought and sold all the time with moisture issues on the front decks, engine hatches and other places. Nothing out of the ordinary. I bought a 02' 340 in September that had some higher readings around the one of the hatches and windshield all common places. 3 screws on the windshield had ZERO silicone and thats from the factory. Boat checked out mint mechanically and the owner dropped the price big time. Yeah I might have a big repair in the future or the next guy might get a deal on the boat if not repaired. You have many ways to negotiate. I took the boat. Resealed all 3 hatches. Resealed windlass foot pedals and windshield screws and just about anything I can get to. Also had the engine hatch recored. Overall got a great deal on alot of boat and very happy.

I went through a handful of 330's before finding my 340. After my experience I was convinced there were only two types of Sundancers available in this age range - 1.) The kind showing significant moisture in all sorts of areas in the foredeck, particularly around the windshield, windlass and hatches and 2.) The kind that had the moisture and were fully repaired. I've never heard of a DA of this vintage staying dry from the factory.

The 340 I ultimately purchased had over $10k of repairs done to the deck for moisture. It's heap big money. But I also know folks that live with the moisture and never look back. I think a little of this should depend on whether or not you plan to resell the boat. If I found my "forever boat" I may accept the moisture issue. I had a pretty good idea going into my 340 that it wouldn't be my last boat. As such resale matters to me...

they are out there....I found one.....I had the surveyor cover almost every square inch of the deck checking for moisture during the inspection of my boat because I knew of the issues this era boat had....fortunately he found no issues at all......

i am the third owner of my boat.....the second owner kept the boat in an exposed wet slip for the few years that he owned it....I do not know how the original owner stored the boat...perhaps it was under a covered slip.....if you can find one of these boats that has been kept under cover that would definitely be a bonus....I am lucky enough to have a covered slip now.....

"Forever Boat"....I've been saying that since my 240, then my 280 and now my 340 lol. But I think this one is it.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. Hopefully you'll find another one soon!

You should stop in at Boaters Point on Catawba Island this Saturday during their open house and talk to Kevin, he's got a couple of nice pre-owned Sea Rays in the show room for sale!

You could also stop at Marine Max on Catawba Island and ask for my buddy James, he always has a plethora of Sea Rays laying around!

If you do talk to those guys, tell them Jayson sent you!

Good luck!

Cheers

The bottom line it wasn't moisture readings that scared me it was that the deck had some soft spots because of it. Why this was not in the report I don't now but its early in the hunt and don't want to do any rot repair not or that kind of money.

Glad to see your moving on.......... Hope to see you use correct spelling on the title next time around.

Good Luck with the hunt. I'm sure you'll find a great boat.

That's rich coming from the guy with the misspelled username.

T, you can correct my spelling anytime you might need to

DVX I'm sorry the deal fell thru. Plenty of boats out there. Good luck with the hunt

No doubt. No doubt. I've got to get myself into something with a hard top and something closer to 40 feet before I stop....I think. ha.

There....I fixed it for you.
lol Now that's funny.

DVX, a friend of mine is an excellent fiberglass guy. He has a ton of experience in core and cosmetic repairs. If you come across an otherwise appealing boat with some moisture concerns, he could provide an estimate or advice. He lives in Bucyrus, so not far from boats/marinas in Western Erie.
