The Racor Petcock Lesson

I was going to put those on ours. There is also a self priming pump you can add. I have been keeping a 2 and a half gallon tank of fuel just to re prime. Did you add the pumps?

We got water in the Racors on a trip down to Key West earlier this year and I did not have the extra fuel. We ended up getting someout out to the marina to re prime the filters.

My understanding is any air can cause the engines shut down.

There's another kit with a different valve that keeps the drain valve from sucking air into the filter. It's $440 on the Racor site. Must be installed with plug with a nitride O ring except when servicing.

Best regards,
Frank

Gary,
Is a QC thing with those valves. They are not true ball valves. They function more like an old seacock with the tapered wedge barrel inside. Then just an o-ring seals the top. I've replaced many that were installed at the pick up.

Sorry- I missed the part in your post where you said they were OEM Racor.
Maybe what's needed is a cheap Chinese pot metal knock-off.

When I order from DE Monday I'll see if he's aware of the problem and if there's an alternative.

Primarily because of cost, I chose a ball valve from a fluidics supplier we used several years ago. The valves are true ball valves with teflon wipers and Vitron seals designed for both air and hydraulic applications, so I figured they would work.

These valves are brass with chrome plating and have a male NPT inlet and a female NPT outlet. I guess you could run a plug in the outlet, but mine don't leak so I never thought about it.

I got them from a wholesale only vender, but this guy repackages a lot of them for Lowes and Home Depot with store brand packaging........look for them where air compressor accessories are sold. Interestingy, the manufacturer is the parent company that owns Racor.
