The official '99-'04 260DA Sundancer thread

Todd & Dennis,

Both those grill storage shelfs look great. With it mounted up under there - can you retrieve and re-stow the grill without actually climbing down in the compartment?

I suppose you could - it's a long reach, though. You'd have to lay on your belly and try not to fall in. I think it would be easiest to just hop down there, though.

Todd - what kind of wood did you use? Is that finish-grade ply? Looks like nice wood.

Yes I can get on my knees in the cockpit and reach down to grab the Newport.

Yes it is some cabinet grade ply that I have at home. Then I have some gray primer paint that matches pretty close the gray of the bilge that I painted it with. It's worked well for over 2 years now.

Ok, so new topic:
Have any of you guys installed a TV in your boat? If so where and how? Any pics? I am thinking about installing a small TV possibly on the locker door in the forward V-berth .

I've thought about it many times. The hanging locker is the location I keep coming back too, as well. But, then I keep thinking that the portable DVD player we have is just fine - it sits on the galley counter top, or we take it up top, or we take anywhere else we want it. For us, using the portable DVD works just fine and keeps some money in my pocket.

However, it would certainly be a fun project - I suspect you would find it entertaining, too??? :smt001

Yeah we let the kids use the portable DVD player too and sometimes I bring the laptop and we'll use that. It just would be fun sometimes to have a decent system and run it through the CD player's speakers on a rainy day....not that it rains here.

We are relying solely on the portable DVD player at this point as well. My current electronics projet - I am thinking about replacing my stereo / cd player. My original unit works fine, but I would like to get the usb port for Ipod play and the remote control unit with the digital display. TV is farther down the list. With a 2 & 3 year old - we don't watch much adult TV anyways - so might as well just keep playing those Pixar hits - over & over & over....

That's exactly where we are at and the twins are going to be 8 next week.
I think too the stereo/radio CD changer are first to go. Having a nice ipod compatible unit would be great. I've even thought of adding a subwoofer behind the Captain's helmseat.

Looks like I have a defect in my on-board battery charger. Everything is fine on battery #1, but I have been able to isolate that there is a 3 amp drain of battery #2 even with the battery switch off from battery #2. The drain is present between the battery and the charger on the charge cable and not any drain on the main cable. To it is actually the charger that is draining my Battery #2. I think 3 amps is about equivalent to leaving a cabin light on, so the battery will go dean in about a week or less.

I have removed the fuse from the charge cable and temporarilly fixed the issue. Has anyone else ever seen this? Any suggestions are welcome.

The charger still works when I replace the fuse and right now will still charge battery #1 with the battery switch off. Or will charge both with the battery switch on both. This is not really an issue, because I use the boat often and that keeps the batteries topped up.

ideas?

After some research, I am thinking about upgrading the current stereo, but staying within the Clarion family. I just like the aesthetics of their gear. I am looking at these items;

1. CMD6 head unit. It is a am/fm/ Cd/MP3/WMA Receiver with USB port.

2. MW1 Wired Remote with LCD Display & 24' extension cable.

3. APX490M 720 Watt Amplifier.

4. Siruis Radio System CLA-SC1 interface and SCC1 Universal Tuner.

5. Shakespeare SRA-25 Ultra Low Profile Sirius Marine Antenna

Altogether it looks like about a $780 price tag for the above. I am also thinking about a sub, but will probably tackle that later.

Have any of you guys looked at or purchased any of this new Clarion gear or have any thoughts about it?

What charger is it?

DId you pull the trigger on this?

I wanna add speakers to my radar arch. When someone is in my starboard seat relaxing they cover up the damn speaker.....

Anyone tackle this install?

Hello, on Saturday we had an engine compartment explosion, unfortunately 6 people suffered burns. What were the likely causes??? An initial information was due to fumes and spark (bilge pump). HELP!

Hope you are all OK.

What exactly was going on leading up to and including the time of the incident?

There should be plates covering where speakers should go. If no there also is a wire path to get to the lights, etc, so it should be straight forward.
I don't have the arch but have looked in to adding on but I can't find one.
Also, I assume you mean the "port" side "L" lounger not the starboard side.

That's crazy. Hopefully everyone will be OK. This is a reminder to all of us gassers to run your bilge blower and maintain your engine and do not be complacent about it.

I finally took a picture of the ABS bezel I made to retrofit the factory's Raymarine 210 VHF to the Standard Horizon Quest-X GX1500S.

Hi all,

My apologies for a long post but here it is. I am new to the forum and I am about to pull the trigger on a 99 260DA. This whole process came up very fast and a decision will be made on Tuesday. I have done some quick searches and read the official thread but I am in need of some quick opinions please. This is a consignment deal through local dealer for $19.5K but needs about $3500 in repairs for boat and trailer to be in "tip top shape" (dealer quote). Repairs include:

- Replace leaking transom seal - includes R&R of engine and transom
- Stress cracks at stbd aft deck, fiberglass repairs
- 3 new batteries
- Repack wheel bearings, tandem axle
- New master cylinder for brakes
- 10" backing plates (not sure what this is yet)
I have been around and run boats for quite some time, but they have all been about 19' runabouts. I am looking for questions to ask the dealer or myself. Critical areas to look at; ie common issues.

Forgot to add: has 7.4L Bravo III with about 200hrs

Also will a Yukon XL 1500 4x4 handle tow duties.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to exploring the site in better detail

Your Yukon IMO is not big enough to tow that boat. I tow mine with a 2500HD Chev.

Todd, great looking surround for our upgrade from the Raymarine.

I also agree on the Yukon being too small, the Yukon is roughly a 1/2 ton rear end and your 260 is a little big for that unit. Can you haul it around the block, yes. can you haul it safely any distance I would say no.
