The official '99-'04 260DA Sundancer thread

... now my turn for another thread drift. I have a Lewmar windlass and need the handle that inserts into the top to tighten the unit. I have searched far and wide for one and all of the ones online are listed as winch handles not windlass handles. Are those the same? Can I buy a winch handle and it will fit; or if not, where can I get a replacement?

I figured there are some significant differences in the designs of the '99-'04 and the '05 to '08 260's as well as the older ones. This thread is dedicated to the 260DA's between '99 and '04.

Post it if you got it.
Good morning Gents, Not sure I am posting correctly and if I am in the right spot. I recently bought a 2004 260 Sundancer and tried anchoring for the first time with the windlass. When I went to wrap the line up it kept jumping the dog that holds pressure against the rope. My question is if there is an adjustment in the windlass? Thanks for any help. Not sure of the type, for got to get the paper work before I left.

Jarett, I wouldn't worry about the terminology. Just order based on it being the proper handle for your make/model windlass. Check your windlass manual for a part number or look at their website. Most likely, the same handle will fit many different models of Lewmar windlasses. First, though, check to see if it's secured to the inside of the anchor locker wall.

Tin, it's the pressure spring for the finger. Or, it could be that the rope is salted up and stiff and needs to be cleaned or replaced.

The rope is soft so i will check the spring

Lewmar winches are used extensively on sailboats. I doubt sailors carry separate handles for the same make winches and windlass. Your best off contacting a sailing emporium. I bet they can help.

I checked the spring and it is pretty tight on the rope. It might be too tight. For what ever reason I can not use the winch to reel the line anchor line back up.

If the finger is tight, then you have either a worn gypsy or the rope is too stiff. You said it was soft, but you also said it was "jumping the dog" which sounds like it's not staying put... which sounds like it's stiff.

Unless the line is too small? Is it correct for the gypsy?

Just wondering what the deadrise angle of the SD260 hull is at the point where the transducer thru hull is located.
( 12 inches starboard of centerline ) boat is in the water so I can't get angle. Had a thief steal my gps/ sounder and a new one is Chirp capable but old transducer is an Armir p319 series which is not compatable. Thks

not sure on the size, I believe it is 5/8"Ø. The rope is very pliable, it is nylon and dose not appear weathered at all. When I real the winch in it make a small loop and jumps off the Gypsy. It is like the dog that holds it down will not let it release. The loop appears before the dog. Thanks for responding.

In that case, is it too big? What does the gypsy call for? And find out, definitively, the rope size.

Okay, thanks more research on my end....

Hi Everyone.

Has anyone installed a new KUUMA Hot water tank on their 260 dancer ? if so, any good videos or material when it comes to redrilling holes for brackets and also connecting the engine hoses with the proper fittings?

I’m ordering one soon. Should be a direct fit I’m told, from others that have installed one.

Haven't done it, but it will be a very basic installation.

Plumbing is easy enough to figure out - nothing really to talk about there. Same with the electric.

The shelf where the heater sits is quite deep (vertically), but just to be sure, don't use longer screws than what is currently used - base this on distance from the side of the boat since the depth of the shelf decreases as you get closer to the side. But, there's no reason to use long screws, either. 1" is more than enough.

Access to everything is very easy in that boat - which isn't always the case.

Awesome - thanks for the advice on the 1" screws. I have this fear of drilling in new holes in the bilge are in general
yes, tons of space to work with in the 260 especially without the generator

Here is a pic of current set up

Nope, sorry, was seeing the hold down bracket ... the engine bay looks so clean and shipshape ... very well done!
RvPilot thank you / you should have seen it when I bought her ..
One job at a time and she’s coming together

My 2nd airplane was a mess under the cowling ... nothing like redoing the wiring, epoxy coating, to make it look like it was intended ... We're hunting fora 260-240 this fall, and look forward to diving into whatever needs to be done.
