I'm looking for opinions, feedback, reviews of The Moorings *crewed* power yacht charters in BVI.

In February my company will celebrate 10 years and I'm thinking of taking my staff somewhere. One of my thoughts is a 5 night crewed charter with The Moorings. I've looked at rates and it's actually a pretty good option since everything's included (ie meals, fuel, crew)

I'm looking at other options as well, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has experience with their crewed charters.

I live in the BVI and I know the Moorings very well. They are very well known and have built their reputation on quality boats and services. They can also offer bareboat charters or arrange a flotilla for you. I highly recommend them. Plus the venue in the BVI is absolutely awesome. See you when you get here.

Yikes... Washington DC... 10 yrs.... BVI crewed power charter...all inclusive... Is Obama paying for this too?... I really don't want to know

I Am just kidding.. Sort of.... Congratulations on the 10 yrs... I am in my eighth... Recession was a tough hurdle. Very nice your celebrating with your team

I have friends that bare boated with moorings and no complaints... How could you go wrong really

Dan

Thankfully we were somewhat protected by the DC bubble in 2007/2008. The election cycle helped. We have many issue-based clients. ;)

The idea is still on the drawing board, but it's one of the ideas I'm considering. My team works really hard. One of the ways I keep turnover low and employees happy is with good benefits.

Thanks for the feedback.

Good to hear! How do you like living in BVI and boating with your SR?

Emagine, I am jealous that you are living down there...hope to make it to there or St. Thomas someday.

I agree and highly recommend the Moorings as well. Have done the bareboat charters with them 8 times down at the BVI's. I have always done either a 40 monohull or 4600 cat. it's the sailing side of me, but we rarely every put the sails up though, don't want to spill the rum. Never done the crewed boats, but when we are hanging at their docks people that used them are very happy with the service they have gotten. In the fall go to a boat shop, like the one at Annapolis and find their booth. They give you a discount if you book shortly after talk with them.

Enjoy...one of my favorite places to go and take friends. Everyone always ask me when were doing the next trip.

We did a crewed sail last Nov on a Moorings boat - 46' cat sailboat. Had a great time. Basically 6 people (3 couples) plus Captain and cook. The crew did a great job keeping us happy. They worked around our schedule. Two of us dove the Rhone with a local dive operator the rest snorkeled near by. Nice mix of remote beach/funky bar mooring balls and tied to dock. I thought, if I did it again it would be pretty easy to rent a 46-52 power cat for less money.
We flew in the previous day and stayed at their hotel-pretty expensive and boarded the boat at noon next day. They had all the food and drinks on board. We left the boat early the last day to get home in one day. Worked out ok. Nov seemed to be a good month - Sept-Oct still hot and many of the bars are closed. Dec gets into high season and more expensive. Nov still needs A/c and generator all night for comfort
Good luck with your trip.

It's awesome I just wish I had more free time, but considering 365 boating season, clean clear safe waters, numerous destinations and anchorages most less than an hour apart - what can I say..... See you all soon

Can I come work for you? I just got back from a two week bareboat charter through moorings in the BVIs. It was out 6th charter I. The BVIs and we love the moorings. We had a 3900 sailing cat. It is am amazing place to go. You won't be disappointed.

We've done both crewed and bareboat charters with the moorings. Both are a great way to go but just are different experiences.....As much as I like to be the Captain and love to navigate, we had a great crew and it made for a very relaxing vacation. We had 3 couples on a 46 cat sailboat. I will say the most memorable part of the crewed charter was the food. Honestly, every meal that came out of the galley was gourmet and you would think you were at a 5 star restaurant. I specifically remember scuba diving one morning..... And when I surfaced, the captain was grabbing my gear, and I was welcomed with an incredible breakfast......The BVI's are beautiful and is a perfect destination for chartering with its many islands and beautiful coves.....
Let me know if you need any specifics.......the only down side I can see with taking employees is a double cabin will only be used by a single..not sure how many employees you have...

Thanks for all of the feedback and recommendations. Everything I've heard and read about the Moorings is positive.

It looks like we may do an all inclusive resort in the Caribbean instead of the charter. The main reason is timing. We're going to use a long holiday weekend and the charter would essentially require a full week of travel, leaving a night on the front and back end to travel.

We were looking at the 58. It has five staterooms for guests. (10 total) I have four employees plus myself so it would have allowed everyone to bring someone with them and everyone would have their own stateroom. When you calculate the per person price and factor in its all inclusive it's a good price.

With that said I'm going to look at a charter for personal vacation sometime.
