Good Morning,

I know this isn't about our favorite topic but I've noticed there are a few aviators in this group so I figured I'd share. For Christmas, my family presented me with a gift that left me speechless. A gift certificate for fully funding my journey to become a private fixed wing pilot. I've been dreaming of flying since I was a kid. I spent 8 years flying as a medic in medevac helicopters and got several hours of "stick time" including landings but I've never done anything more than dream of getting my ticket.

They purchased a "discovery flight" and then made up the other gift certificate and included information about the 3 local flight schools operating from the nearby regional. I'll be spending time at each school to get a feel for the staff, etc. An aircraft can get very tiny if the chemistry is off.

So.....here we go!! Any pointers from CSR aviators, other than "don't crash"!!

I do not have my private pilot license; however, my bro is a commercial pilot who has taken me flying more often than maybe I should. His advice to me every time is "Let the plane do the work". What he means by it is that I tend to try to correct the path with a death grip on the yoke. Just relax and don't think you have to give an input for every little thing the plane does. Just like a boat, it is going to bounce, wiggle, and wallow around a bit. Just let it "do the work" and it will get you to your destination.

Same advice pretty much applies to running a boat, motorcycle, airplane, car, etc.

Congratulations!

Good advice about not crashing

Here is a couple pointers.

Make sure your take offs and landing are the same number at the end of the day.

The most useless items when flying are:
Runway behind you
Gas on the ground

Altitude is your friend
