A while back Frank W. posted a response to a thread that he was not going to renew his Master's license due to a number of reasons. After going through the renewal process, I agree with him and probably wouldn't go through it again.
For renewals done within the limits published by the USCG:
1) Form CG-719B -Free
2) Physical Exam with eye and hearing test -$125
3) DOT/USCG Periodic Drug Testing Form completed by USCG Medical Review Officer -$110
4) Small Vessel Sea Service Form -Free
5) Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) -$132.50
6) Renewal Processing Fee USCG -$95
It was a pain to go through this process. My normal doctor could do the physical but the drug test HAD TO BE DONE BY A USCG MRO. In addition the TWIC card is a new requirement that has a different set of issues. You must visit the TWIC office two times (I live in VA and the nearest is Baltimore).
$462.50 & three days off work
