The Best Layed Plans of Mice and Men

Deb, thanks for the offer of help on getting the car moved. That's the kind of boater friendly help that most of us have learned abounds among the boating crowd.

We're really looking forward to meeting you and Tom, seeing CRYC and enjoying the weekend.

Mike-
Sounds like everything is slowly coming together for you and your new vessel. Sorry we won't see each other at CRYC for the Aquapolooza. Damn work! Enjoy!

Stuart, we'll be at MYH from about noon Thursday to some time Friday morning. If you get a chance, drop by. After that we'll be at CRYC until Monday morning when we'll break for home.

Ok, two things caught my attention.
1. HOLY CRAP, that's a L O N G way down to drop into the water. Never seen anything like that.

Yea, that was my thought too! If I saw my boat up on that thing, sfergson727 would NOT have let me near his head...

Just a quick update. We made it home after a wonderful trip up the Columbia...all 225 miles from Portland to the Tri Cities. I'll post a couple of pics right now, but don't have much time so more will have to come later if anybody wants them. The boat yard's mods to the hull and trim tabs worked just great. We were apprehensive about that and we found the roostertail comes up about 1'-1.5' behind the swim deck when we're on plane. At displacement speed we get a little water splashing up on the deck but it's not hitting it below the deck.

This picture pretty much sums up how we both felt about the boat and the trip. The headset my Galley Wench is wearing allows us to keep in touch with each other when we're in a lock or docking. In this shot we're inside the lock at John Day Dam. This was the third lock of four that we had to go through.

Here's our wake shot when we're on plane.

Here are a couple of shots at the dock in Arlington, OR one of the places we overnighted.

As I said, if anyone wants more pics and a journal of the trip just let me know on here. I could start a separate thread for that one.

I love looking at pics of your boat! Anymore you wanna post would be great with me!!

More pictures and a log would be great!! I just drove highway 84 there along the river and thought about your trip, glad you made it!

gofirstclass, nice boat and good luck with it. I am in the market for a 55'or 58' sundancer. I was kicking around the other day trying to find out what insurance cost for something that big. 5 companys, and I still have no answer.
Whats with that? did you have any problems? 30 years boating have taken USCG and floridas courses.
Help???

It was great meeting you and GW! Hopefully we can hook again one day! Glad to hear you made it home with no mishaps.

flarepoman, no problems getting insurance. I went with the same insurance agent in Seattle that I've used for years. He researched it for me and came up with a new company that had much better rates than the old one offered.

The only thing I had to do was spend some time with a licensed captain so I could convince him I knew how to drive the boat and wouldn't sink it the first time I took the helm. The captain wrote a letter and faxed it to my insurance agent's company. They faxed it somewhere back east to the main insurance company's office and we had the go-ahead within an hour.

Divegirl, any time you want to cruise this direction (or drive this direction for an overnighter on our boat) just let me know. It doesn't take much to get us on the water.

penbroke, here ya go.....

This shot shows the 24" extension they attached to the back end of the hull. It was supposed to push the roostertail back and it works. The roostertail is now about 1'-1.5' behind the swim deck when we're on plane. The trim tabs were extended in length from 8" to 14".

A side view of the trim tab extensions. They put on new zincs but they're aluminum instead of zinc because those work better in the river.

Same thing, different view.
