This story is getting plenty of talk on another forum I frequent.

At least no one was killed.

TAMPA — A 39-foot boat crashed into a Ruskin restaurant Monday afternoon, injuring two people on the boat.
The boaters told investigators they got lost in the fog and didn't realize they were near land when their SeaVee boat crashed into the Sunset Grill at Little Harbor, 611 Destiny Drive, at about 5 p.m.
The force of the collision caused part of the building's roof to collapse. No restaurant workers or customers were injured, but the building had to be evacuated, said Nacole Revette, a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokeswoman.
Fire crews stabilized the roof and extracted one injured person on the boat, Revette said. The boater, who was in stable condition and not identified, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. A second person who was injured on the boat took himself to the hospital. The injuries were not life-threatening, said Baryl Martin, a spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The boaters told investigators they couldn't see well because of the fog, Martin said.
“The fog was rolling in and did obstruct the operator's view,” Martin said. “He struck the beach and the building.”
There were seven people aboard the boat, which was equipped with four 300-horsepower outboard motors. The boaters had left from the Little Harbor area and had gone fishing offshore. They were returning to Little Harbor when the crash occurred, Martin said.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating. Hillsborough Code Enforcement responded to the scene because of the damage to the building, Revette said.
The Tampa Bay region remains under a dense fog advisory this morning, closing the Port of Tampa and stranding several ships offshore, according to reports.

A 39' Sea-Vee with quad 300's on the back. Sweet boat and alot of boat $$$$$$'s.

And how fast must you be going to push that far up the beach in fog so dense that you can't see anything.....WTF ???

the boat has radar to boot......how does this happen??????? This is no "accident" but, at best, a severe lapse in judgement - at worst....well you decide (don't want to get into any name calling here LOL).....you never know who your sharing the waterways with...hopefully everyone is OK could have ended a lot worse

7 people on board. I can't believe no one was killed.

Not that it matters much, but I'd like to know what the operators' BAC was.

Obviously the captain had more $$$ than ability.

You'd also think one of the 6 passengers might say, "hey um, aren't we going kinda fast considering we CAN'T SEE!?"

Yet another boat owner goes out of his way to prove that you can't buy common sense.

Do you guys have compulsory breath testing there at an accident?

Here the skipper would have been breath tested on the spot, with a blood test ASAP. To be doing that type of speed in fog, either stupidity or alcohol would have to be involved surely

The news this morning said that alcohol was not a factor, but the operator was being tested for "other impurities" Still how fast do you have to be going before it's to fast?

One of yaw'll said this to me once when we were talking about boating at night and it stuck like glue, never go any faster than you'd want to hit something. Maybe he should have been a member here at CSR!

From info gathered elsewhere the captain was the owners son and obviously had some serious lapse in judgment. Two of the 7 were taken to the hospital. They were reportedly going over 70 mph.

I wouldn't call that a lapse in judgment, I'd call him an idiot. Thank God there weren't any boats or people in this fool's way. Idiots like that should be locked up and have their operator's card AND their driver's license taken away indefinitely. I just can't imagine idling my way through the fog with a lookout on the foredeck, sounding my horn, eyes glued to the radar and sonar, and then have that moron go flying by at 70. End of rant.

Edit; And I hope his Daddy cuts his allowance off until he grows a brain.

Thank god he didn't kill any one that was doing what they are supposed to do in those conditions, which is drive at slow speed, sounding your horn on interval, regardless of radar.

Any one of you that boat in that area could be dead, along with your friends or family if you were coming in or out when that jackazz came in. Lapse in judgement, well maybe, but stupid is what stupid does.
