This was taken Sunday at Lake Mead, I don't have any details but he must have been driving pretty crazy to get it up on the rocks like that

WTF! I hope no one was killed......

Makes me wonder how much alcohol played a part?

Other than the nose the boat looks in pretty good shape.

Looks like a good opportunity to drain any residual water out of the bilge.

Another dumb a$$ that bought a boat. :smt021
How do you NOT see a rock / mountain that BIG !!.

Oh, the lessons we can learn from others! Here's more on the story, found on another site:

"Brand new 29 hallett, i know the owner of the boat, & his fiance very well, also another 2 of my very good friends (another couple), were on the boat along with 3 other people i don't know (7 total).... everyone is going to be ok, bruised up a bit and very sore, a couple of the passengers were air lifted as a precaution but no major injuries from what i've been told.

An idiot on a sea doo cut in front of them in the narrowest part of the narrows and then did a 180 right in front of them. The driver was forced to make an evasive turn in one direction to miss the sea-doo, then an evasive turn back the other direction to stop from running up onto the rocks. It was at this point the boat spun out and ejected all 7 passengers. Since there is no kill switch and no self returning throttle on the boat (like most other boats that size) the boat then took back off and ran itself up the rocks.

Another friend of mine was up in front of them when it happened in his eliminator, he just happened to look over his shoulder when it all went down, he hauled ass to the opposite side of the narrows from where all the passengers were in the water (thinking everyone was still on the boat up rocks) and was yelling into the boat if anyone was ok, he then turned around and noticed everyone back on the other side a couple hundred yards away i'd guess, he went over there and started throwing life jackets and **** in the water, and doing a head count, everyone was there (no one drowning or under water)

BTW the a ------- on the Sea-Doo fled the scene."

This was in the narrow canyon between 2 of the larger basins. The lake is only a few hundred yards wide in this area, and unfortunately its a popular sport for the "go-fast" guys to make WOT runs. My guess is someone popped out of a cove in front of him and he chose the rocks over a collision with another boat.

ETA: now seeing the post above I was at least partially correct. It sounds like a tremendous comedy of errors, I only wish I was there to observe it from a safe distance.

Use of an ignition kill switch (lanyard or wireless) is actually required on all vessels at Lake Mead when moving faster than no wake speed. (law went into effect Oct 2007), whether he was in compliance is another story.

So the question I have to ask is why were there 7 people in the boat. I don't see that many seats. the accident still would have happen but there would be a few less injured people if the boat had been loaded properly.

I lived in Las Vaegas for a few years and boated on Lake Mead often. I know the Narrows very well. It appears the driver of the boat did not. the Narrows can get crowded and extreme caution is called for at all times.

A few hundred yards wide? WTF I realize that's not a lot when you're running balls out in a GFBL but I suspect there's more to this than meets the eye.

Possible other contributing factors...
inexperience as a boater
inexperience with this particular boat
driver inattention (not maintaining a proper watch)
booze
failure to use an ignition kill switch

It will be interesting to see what the investigation discloses.

Isn't the lake long enough to make WOT runs without getting into the narrows? My friend have 28' Skaters and run 112MPH all the time but Tampa Bay and the Gulf are wide open. Running high speeds on the water is not safe anyway let alone running that fast through narrowed and heavy trafic waterways.

Since there is no kill switch
Bull SH*T every BRAND NEW boat has them.
He was a DUMB A$$ !!!. Don't blame it on the sea doo guy !!. :smt021
I would of run his a$$ over BEFORE I smashed my boat.

I like I said : ANOTHER DUMB A$$ BOAT OWNER. :smt021

I would guess the amount of alcohol at least one quart of Johnny Walker Red........

Great boat, low hours, fresh NEW bottom. $35k.

Why is it whenever there is a boat accident everone comes to the conclusion that it was alcohol related.
I have had it with non drinkers. I can here em now anything bad happens probably alcohol related.
