that was a national championship!?!

Mike,
Ever heard of the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry? I think college football is alive and well here in the North!

Mike

hey mike, i'm in ATL and we are HUGE pro fans as well. we have the team with the best record in the NFL! we get no respect since our current line up hasn't won a playoff game yet. but everyone fails to recognize that those losses were usually to the eventual superbowl champs. we've just had an unlucky draw the past few years, that's all. go falcon! on sunday night, seatle will be mourning the end of their season.

You may be "HUGE" pro fans but I would submit to you that the ratio of 10 Dawgs and other collegiate automotive displays (bumper stickers, license plates, etc.) to 2 Falcons or other NFL teams is common in the south. Would you disagree with my anecdotal assessment?

You have found 2 of the strongest fan bases in the north. What teams do people in Indiana show support for? Colts. NW Indiana and Illinois? Bears Wisconsin? Green Bay, Ohio? Ohio State. Michigan? I think the Lions edge it out. New York? Giants. Massachusetts? Pats. Pennsylvania? Eagles. These are my perceptions of what you would see most compared to all other teams. I have no perception From Kentucky to the Gulf that pro teams have more popularity than the college teams. Louisianian may be the closest between LSU and the Saints.

I'm ready to hear where my perceptions are wrong.

mike, i would normally agree, but right now the falcon auto displays are pretty rampant as well! cause we're the best pro team in the league. displayed in how we destroyed the giants and broncos. we just have a hard time getting psyched up for mediocre teams. we gotta fix that.

MM - I don't think anyone can tell you your wrong. I think you've made a pretty sure bet.

I grew up in Pa. & De. Pro football, pro baseball. Throw in some Flyers hockey & you've just about covered things.

As an adult I moved to North Carolina. College basketball only. Nothing else mattered. Nothing!

25 years ago I moved to North Alabama. We love the Atlanta Braves only because it does not interfere with college football. Most here can not name the Quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons nor would they drive the 2 hours to go see them play. Pro basketball could be played on the moon & we wouldn't watch or care about it. College football is king & nothing else even comes close.

I think that the reasoning behind this is interesting. But thats for another day.

Richie,

Be careful what you wish for. Seattle is probably the hottest team in the NFL right now. I will give you that the Falcons are a better team at home than on the road but your not the "Best Team In Football" until you win the Lombardi Trophy. Just ask Tom Brady and his 18-1 New England Patriots. BTW: I believe it was the NY Giants that smacked your team around last year on the way to the Super Bowl.
