Hi all,
Haven't posted since we sold our Florida boat several years ago. We tried to buy a house on W. coast of Fl. but it just never worked out. Now that both our kids are married and starting families in Dallas we are strongly considering a move there. Both have expressed their desire for us to come there.(from KC) I've been looking at lakes. First a house in Dallas then a Lake house. Cedar Creek keeps coming up. I know it's small but it seems to be an attractive area. I'm thinking kids, grandkids, jet skis and perhaps a small surf boat. Thoughts and advice always appreciated!
Thanks!

I've been a boater in the DFW area for 40 years. We live on Lake Lewisville in Dallas and had a boat in the local marina for over 20 years. Moved it to Texoma and was there 11 years. My BIL and SIL have a beautiful home on directly on Cedar Creek and have lived there over 25 years. We visit there often and plan to be there this weekend again. Every one of those lakes have their pros and cons.

Lake Lewisville: As soon as you utter the words someone will say 'most dangerous lake in Texas'. Well, that was many years ago and they always fail to mention that most of the deaths are drownings from the public beaches. Because it is so close to Dallas it gets a lot of day visitors, many of which aren't great swimmers. From a boating perspective the facilities on the lake are poor. Never understood why a lake this size, so close to Dallas, couldn't support more restaurants with docking facilities. You can be safe on that lake as long as you avoid certain areas. Other than a few grandfathered instances, there's almost no docking behind your homes.

Cedar Creek: Very nice lake with beautiful homes, most with their own docks. Quite a shallow lake, especially to the north. Lots of stumps. You need to really get familiar with it to avoid hitting something in some areas, even though it looks wide open. The drive can be a bit of a beating, especially if you're south and/or east on the lake. Some homes have docks that become useless if the lake drops just a few feet. look out for that.

Texoma: From purely a lake perspective, nothing compares to it in the area. It's huge, has sandy beaches. Good facilities and marinas. Not many private docks, but some. We were in the biggest marina on the lake and had a wonderful 11 years there. Not a good 'boat for a day' lake. It's just too far. Funny, even though we're literally on a small cove of Lewisville, with a jetski out back, we would drive the 75 miles to Texoma every weekend. It's that much better.

I'll leave it there for now. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. I'll answer what I can.

Bob, I was hoping you were coming to Florida! Thought we could work on our golf games. Best of luck in Texas!!!

Thanks Mike! Kids are starting to have families and both have expressed their desire for us to move there. Sarasota, the boat, dock friends, all were a great adventure for us but we feel the need to be a part of our kids and grandkids lives. Keep working on your handicap and stay healthy!
