I added a digital to analog converter box to the TV. After looking into postings on this board (thanks all!), anything that makes use of the existing poor, much reviled factory installed antennae makes sense.
The converter was from Best Buy, Insignia. It is eligable for the government coupon.
Success! Now receive many more channels than before, and reception is much improved.
Next step is to permanently mount the converter box, and add a small inverter so it can be watched while on the hook.

I too added the converter box over the weekend.
Sorry to say that the previous owner removed the Glomax Antenna so I do not have at this point anything other than a set of rabbit ears bungeed to the arch with a coax running up there.

Yes, I hear Redneck coming up, but I just wanted to see if it made a difference.
And what a difference it did make on the 20" LCD
About 8-10 additional stations and excellent reception.

It helps that I have line of sight 16miles to downtown Chicago.

Any recommendations on an antenna for the arch?
Just don't want to spend a fortune, even in 'boating dollars'.

Call me a redneck too...I had to watch the Wimbledon finals this weekend so I had the rabbit ears sitting outside thru a forward hatch.

Daniel,
I wish I had a cheaper suggestion for you. I would think the easiest thing would be to go Glomar, since I would anticipate that the screw holes are still there for mounting, and the wiring may still be there as well. I think it's worth a look.
And there aren't many antennae mfrs out there.
My 0.005cents (adjusted for inflation)! Best of luck.
