I am in the process of installing a new 76"w x 27"d extended swim platform from swimplatforms.com. Those of you who are looking at such a thing, I will say they do a great job. I'll know more when I put it on next weekend.

Using SeaDek in the past on the small swim platform, I would like to us it on the extended swim platform as well. I am also in the beginning process with Dave for the teak look Infinity carpet.

The issue with the SeaDek product is they come in 39" by 77" sheets in faux teak. The faux teak stripes run the long way on the sheet, which means I will not be able to run the stripes bow to stern with one pad on the extended swim platform. I do not want to break up the pad in sections.

So my question is, will it look weird if the Infinity teak look cockpit carpet stripes are run bow to stern, but my swim platforms teak SeaDek stripes are run port to starboard? My Weekender doesn't have a walkthrough to the swim platform so it does break it up a little.

Thanks
Ollie

I don't think that would look good at all. Keep the teak lines bow to stern. Do a template and send it off to SeaDek. A little more money than doing it yourself but why mess up your new swim platform? My 2 cents. Good luck, Brian

Yes - I have done that. I just did the template and sent it off, but as I mentioned it is my understanding their sheets aren't wide enough to go bow to stern the full width of both swim platforms.

Did they tell you that? I thought they could run the lines anyway you want based on your template? I'm dealing with them now and love the product, but it seems to be taking forever.

Just break swim deck up into 3 - 4 pieces.

Here is a 340DA I did with Infinity in cockpit and Seadek on platform:

Have Seadek mirror the teak lines of the vinyl weave that way it all looks the same. They cut in CNC machine, so they might have that ability if you mark the lines.

They can run the lines either direction. The issue is that the material they typically use for the teak look has a grain to it. The grain runs the long dimension of the sheet. You may be able to go with material that does not have the grain or perhaps compromise on lines going bow to stern and grain port to starboard?

I think you should stick to bow to Stern. I used the woven vinyl material and if they match one piece to the other with sunbrella binding it won't be noticeable at all.

I guess I can wait and see what SeaDek comes back with - I agree, I would like to go bow to stern.

You might be worried about something that isn't that big a deal. The width of SeaDek material forces some restriction in the layout, but I didn't find it objectionable. We covered the entire cockpit and top swim platform and love it. THe slight gap between panels on the swim platform actually function as drains for any water that collects on the surface. Here are photos of my boat from the SeaDek website to give you the idea:

Thanks.

I believe they will break it up for me once they load up the template. I will probably go that rout.
I have existing pads running port to starboard on my swim platform and never really cared for the look. During that time , 5 years ago, I believe their sheets were smaller than 39" w, they had my smaller pad broken up.

I agree with Frank and the others about going bow to stern. If they make the gaps fairly tight then you won't really notice them.

Are you on the St. Croix or Minnetonka? I'd love to check out the Sea Dek and Infinity when it's all installed.

I'm actually by Lock & Dam #1 in Highland Park at Watergate Marina. We boat "to" the St. Croix to swim (sometimes I'll tow). I also spend a lot of time on Lake Superior, actually more than the river last year because of flooding . My in-laws have a cabin on WI South Shore, so I rent a slip for a couple weeks during the Summer.

You're more than welcome to check it out. Hopefully I can send my existing carpet/templates to Dave this week.

I figure worse case, if I can't get the Sea Dek right, maybe I go with a tan seagrass Infinity - I don't know.

Keep in mind that your are comparing SeaDek to carpeting. Sedek is designed to firmly adhere to the fiberglass (via pressure sensitive adhesive backing) and the wetter it is the less slippery it seems to be. If you have the SeaDek cut and installed by one of their installers, it has a 9 year warranty.

Thanks fwebster. I actually have the Mocha over Black Faux Teak SeaDek installed already on the swim platform (not my new extended platform). I put it on about 5 years ago and still looks great. I'll have to remove that and replace it because there is no longer a swim ladder at that location.

Any updates? Curious how the extended swim platform turned out as I have been looking at one myself.

I installed the swim platform and it went 'swimmingly'! Looks great and almost OEM, but with stanchions. You'll definitely need 2 people to do the install. Friscoboater on YouTube really had some great tips, like using the outdrive as support. I would recommend getting extra SS hardware though. The reason is, we test fitted everything before we put 5200 everywhere. A few of the Nylock nuts seized up and we had two bolts that got cross threaded. It could have been caused (most likely) by user interface error, however I noticed they sent two different manufactures of Nylocks that were the same size. One threaded better than the other. I also drilled holes larger for the stanchion poles that were below the waterline, filled with six10 and re-drilled the correct size, and loaded them with 5200.

As far as the SeaDek - I sent in my template at the beginning of May and it took them 2 weeks to give me a quote. I put a payment down immediately so I could get drawings of what the mocha-over-black teak will look like going bow to stern.. They told me it would be up to 10 working days to get those. Here I am at day 10 (not including holidays) and I have yet to have a drawing for approval. I get it, it's the busy season and they have corporate clients. However, Dave has been patient with me in regards to the Infinity Carpet and unfortunately the style of carpet I want hinges on what designs SeaDek comes back with. Also, I have a big trip planned on Lake Superior at the end of June, and I will want carpet for that.

I'll keep you up to date as further details come up.

I'm in the same boat. I have the Gray and black Infinity fabric in the boat. We are installing a new platform on our 330 next week. I was looking into the Seadek as well. But I plan on breaking it up into a couple pieces. I was actually going to send a pattern to Seadek and see what they would suggest. I would like it to run the same as the infinity fabric patterns runs as well. I also was wondering how much cost is involved with the Seadek material. I like the looks of if and would love to put in on the platform. But sure don't want to break the bank to do it.

Pricing went up for the pieces I'm replacing which was a bummer - so it was flipping' expensive. They will probably have you order a template kit and you'll have to trace where you want it. Hopefully I'll have something today - actually I'm going to send them an email now. I'll let you know how it goes.
