Hard to tell when you are getting a marine engine and when you are getting an automotive engine if it is not coming from Mercruiser.

We only use genuine Mercruiser re-man long blocks for this and other reasons. We have never had a failure and they always perform.

Just because "it's a 350" does not mean that all things are the same. There are so many different versions and so many different performance levels. Also, if you put a "higher power" long block in your carb/fuel injection/ignition "tune/setup" will not be correct and you are likely to have idle problems, flat spots, unrealized power, or maybe even a burned piston due to a lean condition. The "combination" has to be right. If it's not you will have nothing but problems.

We frequently see situations where a long block has been replaced and now the boat is 5mph slower and the engine is 500rpm down. At this point you are usually stuck with it and your original correct engine is long gone.

They are actually remanufacturing the original blocks.

The block isn't really the issue. The cam, pistons, valve springs, and heads are where the "performance tune" is.
We have done literally hundreds of engine replacements and rebuilds. the ONLY supplier who consistently gives us engines that perform and don't have problems is Mercury Re-man.
Anything else is a roll of the dice.
They cost a little more but it is much cheaper than having to do the job twice.
They also have a REAL warranty. Any Mercury dealer can warranty it.
After our experiences with many different vendors and rebuilders we will not install anything else.
