Also known as a "Point of Use" heater. I have a 250DA with a 7.4 and all the options that SeaRay could crame into the Bilge. It is a PIA to work on! I'm considering removing the big heat exchanger type hot water heater with an Eemax Marine type unit that works on 120V. Anyone see a down side? Thanks, Al W.

Do you have a source of 120V AC when you would want hot water? The engine heats the water for use out on the water, then when back at the dock on shore power, the 120V AC shore power takes over to heat the water. If you remove the heat exchanger hot water heater, you wouldn't have engine heated hot water. You don't have a generator, do you? Battery use to instantly heat water through an inverter would be highly inefficient and likely require lots of batteries.

You can get a 120V unit to serve as an "instant hot" for a sink...and that draws 20 amps. At that, only .5 gpm, which isn't enough for a shower.
Anything large enough to handle a hot shower looks to be 240V...

We use our boat as an occasional overnighter. Very rarely have need for Hot Water. Al W.
