Taking On Water... But WHY???

I had a small leak inthe y-pipe (bullhorns) from the exhaust itself. JB Weld worked great to repair it going on 3 years. See if you can tell which engine by putting something below the engine to see which engine it is leaking from. Good luck

I only have 1 motor...

I will post on Monday what I find...

BTW, was looking in the shop manual that I have last night. I was in the section with the steering and swivel shaft. The only parts listed were the shaft, nut, and 2 washers, no seal or o-ring...

I had the same problem that turned into an expensive repair due to corrosion (water would drip through the pin and collect between the transom housing and the transom). Engine had to be pulled and the transom housing replaced.

In the transom housing has a rubber seal that the swivel pin goes through preventing water to enter (the top part of the transom housing stays above the water line when the boat sits on the water and no weight is on the transom). This seal "glued" to the transom housing. The design is pretty awful!!!

Im guessing ou use the A/C or the wfresh water system while on board and one of those components, lines, pumps, strainers is leaking a bit.

Well, I got in there with a flashlight and 3 people standing on the back of the boat. I cannot find water dripping in anywhere. Sat at the dock all weekend and drank :smt101

Friday night there was a little water down there. We had a lot of rain last week here. I didn't clean it out. Checked on Sunday before I left and had the same small pool of water down there.

Now, I didn't run the motor... I wonder if there is a leak from a hose or something now... Won't get back till this weekend to see...

Wait a minute, back the truck up...

DId you say you DRANK? I thought you were "on the wagon" as far as drinking on the boat? Now we will invite you to the raft ups!

PS, guys night tomorrow at my house...

I drink on the boat, and the dock, and other boats, only when tied to the dock... no drinking out on the water for me... :smt001

Ummmmm, tomorrow night... working late..... :smt009

Aye, got ya.

Have fun tomorrow :)

Do you have A/C on the boat ? My A/C condenate line drains to the bilge so I have an inch or so of water that lays down there ( bad design). Look at my Gimbal housing repair/ring post for a pic of the swivel shaft seal...it exists and is vital !

I have a hatch AC unit, thanks to boaterboy

Trying to get the water heater back together so I have hot water.

My trailer is at the marina, so I think I am going to haul it and re-check the drain plug and pull the drive just to make sure that the bellows for the drive shaft and u-joints is dry.

Didn't pull the boat. However........

Got in the bilge again last night and had someone run the garden hose near the upper gimbal housing on the outside. Water is dripping in around the swivel shaft :smt021.

I did some runs on the river this weekend. Saturday was just a quick cruise to the local island and back to the dock about 3 hours later. I had very little water in the bilge. Sunday, was out trolling for a while and caught a few stripers. Well, in the process of reeling in fish, my son would back the boat up. After fishing went to the local island for a bit again but beached the boat, so the stern was really submerged with waves hitting the back. Came back to the dock and the bilge was full of water.

Now... Where do I find the kit for the Alpha Gen1 drive?

Not to hijack, but how much water in the bilge is "normal"? I ALWAYS have some at the bottom and it is usually silty. Once while sitting on the boat at the marina, the auto bilge pumped kicked in to pump out some water. I have only noticed this happening once.

People I know say water in the bilge is normal. I always keep an eye on it...

No water in the bilge is 'normal'.

Despite this many still have some due to various issues.

I am amazed at how much water accumulates in the boat after a day on the water. With everyone swimming, getting in and out with lifejackets, wakeboards and other toys, water ends up all inside the boat all day long.

alarm goes off with engine running. Good oil pressure not over heating. Runs fine but stalls at idle 2004 Mercruiser efi small block
