We currently have our boat in dry storage at LWM. What are people's thoughts on Tailrace? Prices are good, but wow is it far north. Also I am not sure of keeping my boat in the water AND uncovered.

We dry stack at LWM as well, and I wouldn't change a thing.

Larry and his staff are great and always go out of their way to help us. In addition to that, when the lake levels get low we can still get the boat out and get use out of it. The last time lake levels got really low they shut down most of the lauch ramps on the lake. LWM still launched bigger boats off the front, but stopped dropping boats bigger then 20 feet off the back dock due to depth. Larry said they were going to get it dredged(not sure if that happened yet).

I would think that due to its location further north and shallower water levels you wouldn't be able to get you boat out of tailrace marina for awhile if the water levels drop like that again. Nothing like paying for something you can't use.

Dry storage would be my choice. LWM does a great job, you get a discount on gas as a SR Club member there and Dave S. is there in case you have any questions!

I would not leave my boat in this water without bottom paint.

Happy Boating!

I would agree with everything said so far. If the water drops down much you won't be able to get out of that marina. Also there is no gas so you will have do drive all the way down just for gas. It is also basically without security. They have "plans" to build a Midtown Sundries there eventually but I don't see that happening until the economy turns around. Not to mention it is a much further drive for you from Indian Trail.

The only benefit I can think of is cost and as soon as they get to 80% capacity those rates will go up close to everyone else's. If you had a pontoon and lived in Gaston county I would say go for it. It would be great if the river was deeper up there.

Wherever you go, you can get a lift if you want a wet slip.
