My tach has started acting crazy. The main tach (with the needle) will not work at all or show 2000rpms when I know I am around 3800 according to the Smart gauge. The smart gauge works perfect and 75% of the time the main tach does as well.

Any ideas?

Not sure if this pertains to your model but I have read this many times here on CSR.....

On the back of the gauge is a 3 position switch. 4, 6 & 8 (cylinders). Exercise the switch through all three positions making sure to leave it in the 8 position.

Hope this helps.

One of my tachs "floats" .. rpm bounces around and then settles down.. would this switch solve the problem [before i start digging around back there]??

Believe me, the "exercise" routine mentioned above works. I need to do it every Spring, then OK for entire boating season.

Pulled the dash out this weekend to get to the back of the tach. No switch on the back. Any other ideas? I did "work" the plug a little to see if maybe it was in the connection. Will find out this coming weekend. Thanks.
