I am about to navigate toward Synthetic Oil on my 5.7 Mercruiser. Since there are so many great opinions here, I wanted to touch bases on the good the bad and the ugly.

In the past I have always switched to synthetic 20/50w Mobil 1. I have a Mercruiser and wanted to find out if there are any challenges with the switch.

Thanks all I am sure there are a few that might benefit from the discussion

I used the search function and found some good stuff but still looking for any other opinions.

Todd has the same boat and he us using the blend... I need to use the blend!

That was easy

I use the blend as well. You really don't hear much about boat engines dieing from lubrication issues. Synthetic has it's benefits. But, most don't use there boats in a way to leverage the benefits.

Did you find Mercury's oil FAQ where they very carefully, deliberately, and specifically state what oil should be used?

But if you are taking a popularity poll, I vote for good old Wesson oil. It has the patented ingredient "Wesson-ality."

Yes I did see the merycury requirement that I found in the archives. Thanks for the note on that
