I have been having Tach problems all summer. In short, The starboard tach was the most stable. Port tach would bounce around for awhile than settle down. The synchronizer would show the engines in sync with the port tach at 200 to 400 rpm behind. As I would speed up the port tach would lag behind even further. At WOT the STB tach @ 5200 Sync shows dead on, port @ 4000. Port throttle was not wide open. I advanced throttle to wide open, port tach also at 5200, Sync now buried to STB. I went out this weekend (unfortunately last run of the season) and checked both tach,s with a Snap on Timing light tach combo. STB tach is 150 to 200 high @ 3000, Port off 50 @ 3000. Sync way off to STB. How does the synchronizer get its signal? Is it driven independently or does it get it's signal from the tach's? Can it be replaced with out replacing the tach's? The original tach's and sync are no longer available.

What do the instruments look like? There's a boat restorer in Manistee, Michigan that I have gotten new gauges (tachs, sync, and volt meter) for my '89 300DA. He sells regularly in the winter season on ebay.
