My ProMariner ProTech 1240i-plus charger has the setting for AGM so, that’s easy.
But, there’s also a second switch selector for the absorption time??
I’m planning on using the factory set-up of 4 group 31’s.
1 batt. = engine
2 batt =engine and house
1 batt = generator
So, 3 banks..

Possible absorption time is 1,2,3 or 4 hours.

Anyone recall going through this recently?

Thanks,

Depends on whose AGM, but 3 hours covers most of them. And I am surprised your protechi is still going, those are rather old at this point.

Yes, I installed that years ago and it’s still going without a single problem ever....I’ll use it till dies.

Keep in mind that when it dies it's entirely possible it'll take a battery or three with it. With the cost of AGM batteries I'd be inclined to replace that charger sooner rather than later.

Sounds pretty unlikely...
I get a huge discount on batteries so, no big deal.

i wish I got that advice a few years ago. My battery charger was dying and took out 4 brand new batteries with it.

He gets a big discount - "no big deal" :):)

His batteries are worth almost as much as a charger. Sure wish I had that discount...

Helps to have friends in high places.
I’ll be into the battery’s for less than 200 each.
So, yeah..no biggie in “boating dollars”.
There’s nothing wrong with the charger. It’s never given me a single problem.
I’ll use it till it dies then, buy another Promariner :)

How do you guys know a protech 1240i is an old charger?.... I have to ask my wife if I had breakfast .... not what I had :)

In this case, I had one that died in 2015 and when I tried to buy another I was informed they were obsoleted a few years before that. I am told it is 2021 now..... that means that charger has been obsoleted at least 7 ish years ago.

I don't think Promarinar is what they used to be. An inordinate amount of failures in new installations around here; the marine electronic techs are not promoting.
I've moved over to Victron equipment and, so far, haven't looked back.

Re absorption time - 3 hours should do it. Validate with measuring the state of charge when it switches over to float.

I have a Victron Phoenix charger. The default max absorption time for AGM batteries is 4 hours. This is reduced as required by the charger.
