I have an '05 340 Sundancer with the original Raymarine c80 plotter. I am planning to put in a new Garmin. My inquiry is if anyone has switched and if the plotter's I am considering will fit where the c80 currently is placed? The Garmin units being considered (with size specifications) are:

5008- 10.1 x 6.8 x 4.2
5208- same
5212- 13 x 9.5 x 4.7

The outside measurements on the c80 in place is 11 1/4 x 8 1/2. The 5212 looks to be an awfully tight fit width wise.
The 5008 and 5208 are about an inch smaller in both length and width.
Any thoughts on whether any of the three units will fit before I buy something and find out it's not going to work?

Thanks for any help.

Unless you get them dirt cheap - don't go with the 4000/5000 series... Support and repairs on them will finish very shortly. They are discontinued and you will not be able to get them fixed if anything goes wrong.

Even the Garmin 6000/7000 series is on its last breath. No more new features like GCV 10 compatibility.

With some of the later units you might be able to fit in a larger screen as bezel vs screen size is getting better and better. So less wasted bezel space.

I have a 5212 that surpassed all of my expectations - it's been awesome. Even so, I have to agree with Kaz - the 4000-5000 is now 3 generations old. If you're going through the trouble of upgrading, I suggest a more current device.

I did all the research replaced mine with the latest Garmin to fit the 840, great unit. I also replaced the speedometer with a GMI 20. I love the set up! All connected with a new nema 2000 backbone.
