A month or so ago we had alot of wind in the PC area that really piled the water up in the bay. My boat floated up and when she came down the swim platform came down on the dock and pulled the supports loose, cracked the edge of the platform etc. :smt013 The supports are attached to the platform but they appear to be pulled loose where they attach to the hull. :smt089 Are these supports attached by screws or through bolted?

If your supports ripped out of the transom, you should pull the boat right away as the water intrusion compromises its integrity. Oh, they are typically attached with screws.

Speaking of swim platforms - I really hope this doesn't count as a hijack, but I'm looking for information on weight limits for my swim platform - I didn't see any in the owners manual.

I imagine in this scenario, the entire weight of a boat coming down on the platform would indeed cause an overstress...

I don't think hull integrity is a major concern from a screw hole (6?) unless the water is sealed inside the hull. I plan on doing some re-fitting this year so she will be out of the water for awhile. Won't know for sure until I get her out.

Tim, isn't your swim platform built into the hull? In this case I would think the max weight you can place on the swim platform would be to not crack the fiberglass/gelcoat.

I don't think there is going to be a spec on a weight limit for your swim platform alone because of the fact it is integrated.

Maybe I am wrong.....won't be the first time, nor the last.

Vern,

Your swimplatform supports should be bolted on...mine were on the 390. Look for about 1" aluminum blacking plates on the interior of the transom.

Screws or bolts, the problem with letting this go for any length of time is that the hydraulic pressure under the water can force water into the fiberglass substrait and instead of a little repair, you end up grinding out a wet delaminated area and the repair (cost!) is a lot more substantial.

I can't recall where I got the info, but last year when I got my new 330, I was told that the weight limit (for dinghy and davit) was 300lbs.

Thanks Frank. Having delt with "boat pox" on my Carver I know the problem well. I'll probably be out in the next week to 10 days and I'll stay out until she's dry.
What do you know about Miller Marine?
