Swim Platform question

Well here's some distressing news!! A couple of weeks ago my 17 year old son hit the swim platform with the Sea Doo.:smt021 Fortunately, he wasn't going fast. But the Sea Doo came up under the edge of the Swim Platform and cracked the edge. It's ugly, I was wondering if you guys think I will have to replace the whole platform or if I can just get some fiberglass work done.

I will take a picture this weekend if that will help, stupid me I didn't take one last weekend.

P.S. I have informed said son that he will be paying for this fix, because he wouldn't listen when I told him not to turn off the Sea Doo before having it under control.

That should get his attention!

Hard to say for sure without pics, but it would have to be pretty extensive to be unrepairable.

I would have to agree the damage would have to be pretty bad to have to be replaced I have seen some badly damaged boats be repaired

Luckily the platform is still attached to the boat:smt043No shoebox required.

I will take some pics and post them, then the experts can come out and tell me if I am going to have to buy a bigger prettier boat or not. Darn I am gonna hate it if that happens.

For whatever it's worth, I have seen several extremely bad damages to swim platforms (including my own on my 240SD which was broken by a careless foirklift driver :wow:) and all were sucessfully repaired with no evidence that anything ever happened. But you do need a good fiberglass repair person to do the job.

I have a hydraulic swim platform and a friend of mine, yes still a friend, slammed into mine creating a lot of spider cracks as well as a pretty good gouge out of the ski itself. All in all, I had the gel man repair the platform after a good review and for the bike I took care of it with a do it yourself fibreglass repair kit and looks pretty good.

You need to concentrate on your thru bolts to ensure they are not damaged / bent, for it would be hard to believe that your son was going fast enough to do that sort of damage. My friend was going about 15mph when he side swiped my platform.

Best of luck and remember, accidents happen (more so in kids). I tend to think of it this way, what would I say if it was a good friend of mine that did the same thing my child did? Usually I would be easier on the friend than my kid. Hard to remember that at times like these, though is a good thought.

I think you should be able to repair a little ski bump. My platform came through this with just a little paint transfer from the house. It acted just like a battering ram.

Ok, there has to be a good story that goes with those pictures:smt089

I was moving the boat from the location in my signature to a spot in front of the other garage door. My wife freaks every time we move the boat so I was doing it by myself. The drive way is pretty steep and cuts to the left requiring a straight shot up the drive so not to hit a tree on the edge of the turn. I had been working it up and back for about a hour and finally got it to the final spot. I set the brakes on my truck and got out to set the wheel chocks just like I had been doing. I got back to the back of the truck and the truck brakes let go. :wow:All I could do was run along side of the rolling truck and boat. The only damage was to the house and a couple of brand new VHF antennas that got snapped. :smt013I spent the rest of my vacation working on fixing the house instead of working on the boat. Its all good now.

Sorry for the high jack but I thought this might make you feel better.

Fiberglass can be repaired to look like new. The MM guys in the midwest are VERY good. Better than the factory guys at Sea Ray.

Good for you for making your son pay. He will appreciate it in about 30 years when he has kids.

Sorry, for the boat damage. But, I am sure it will look good as new. I have had MM fix a few factory defects. They are good at that kind of work.
