Hi all,
We have recently added an item to our bucket list.
"Swim platform".
Problems? Yes
She is an older 90 searay 350 39.9' She's in great shape.
We love it but so desire a swim platform. Would love to hear some personal experiences,
Opinions and mostly advice. Thanks

What are the problems?

Check out swim platforms dot com.

I don't think the contours of all transoms are the same. The original on our boat was far from big enough for our needs. Wouldn't even hold a large fish cooler. We ended up having a local fab shop build one to our specs. At the same time, we got them to replace the flimsy hand rails on top of the cabin with an arch and rod holders incorporated into it. I know aluminum isn't for all, but it rock solid and popular in the PNW.

Put a swimplatforms.com on my 1992 290....best upgrade I done on the boat..

Thanks all. I see many older boats with rotted swim platforms. Are most or all swim platforms constructed of fiberglass and wood?

It all depends on the person/company making it. But wood is a relatively common thing to use and works extremely well. I see a lot of boats in my profession and it's more on the rare side to see one with a rotten core. But, of course, it can happen. However, the main reason for a core starting to rot is NOT simply because it's made out of wood, per se. It's because there's been water intrusion due to improper sealing of a screw hole or damage - typically from an owner.

That said, worrying about a rotting core when purchasing from a reputable builder is really a non-issue.

Just added a swimplatforms.com to my 89. GREAT ADDITION to the boat! The old one was 22 inches wide and the new one is 42 inches wide! It's huge and is a whole lot easier when stepping out on the platform. There is no wood in the Swimplatforms.com version. It's all fiberglass, so you don't have to worry about rot!

No response from swimplatforms.com. I completed an on-line quote request. 2 weeks now with no response. I guess they're extremely busy. Moving on to next builder for quotation. Busy season.

EVERYTHING boating related is backed up, right now. They're a good company. Like others, they're doing their best just to stay open, right now, with all of the restrictions and requirements put on them.

From their website:

Your quote email will come from info@swimplatforms.com Due to a significant amount of quotes coming in, we are currently back logged on getting quotes out. We ask that you please be patient, and we will have your quote to you as soon as we can.

If you need further assistance, please call: (602) 431-8225

Yeap, That's the same response I received. I'll be patiently and humbly waiting.

Took a while to get a quote from them earlier this month, but for a 340DA (12' beam), it was ~$2400 for the platform, $135 for the crate/packaging, and $360 freight. Expect a similar quote for the 350 as I'm sure the dimensions and design are very similar. Comes with all hardware and figure 6-8hr of labor to install; however, mine already has an add-on step, so your installation might be more difficult. I'm remove/replace, but you are adding a full new step.

Very nice. Came out great. I noticed the molding on the last boat is separating.

Yeah, they're not the only one. Many small, marine businesses are struggling with things like that. Just not enough man power and time to do everything with all of the restrictions and what not. It's been VERY hard on lots of businesses... very hard.
