Swim Platform Mat

Several of the newer boats we saw at the Atlanta boat show had rubberized mats in place on the swim platform.

Dave - The carpeting does look like the Ritz!

SeaRay tells me the "holes" in the swim platforms have a purpose, not for drainage. They allow exhaust gasses to disburse when underway. With these covered, the gasses will become trapped under the platform. My two cents from SeaRay.

Makes perfect sense. I guess thats why the bigger the platform the more of these "blow holes" you see.

Thanks Richard!

Actually our large platforms dont have the blow holes in the typical location. They are placed at the decks rear pretty much almost hidden close to the transom. So, one could on our 450 s install the carpet and just have the carpet made 3-4" less deep and keep them installed underway. Our air holes are longer and skinny. Not oval.

Somebody once told me the holes in the swimstep are there to relieve pressure off of it... SeaRay had a learning curve in earlier models when boats come back down off of step and you have all that water (and pressure) coming up underneath it. As the story goes in the early days (B.H. -before holes) several folks lost their swimsteps (snapped off). :wow:

While at the Raleigh boat show today I talked with a local plasteek fabricator and he showed me a new product called Deckadence.

Very gripping under your feet, waterproof and won't stain. I was told the price is comparable to marine carpet or cheaper. Worth looking into, seems like a nice product for a swim platform. My local place, TT custom marine has many SR templates already so it might be worth a call to see what the finished cost is but he said it can easily be cut with HD scissors to do it yourself. I can get a close up pic of it if anyone would like. SB

No one mentioned it, but my neighbor and I had Searay rubber mats on our platform for two years, all rubber gold Searay sign. Swim platform started cracking.. was told to never leave the rubber mat on all the time in the summer in warm weather, had to get the platform repainted with anti-skid paint.

We have the extended platform on our 340. We do not keep a mat on it all the time. Our marina has a duck problem. They love to sit on the platforms and as you can imagine, during the week they make a bit of a mess.

When are sterned in or at a raft up, we have a mat we got from a commercial uniform rental company. It is 3x10 and we just un-roll it. It does not look custom at all but it does what we want it to do.

Nick -

Most of the transom area on a SD200 is a 'no sit/stand' area.. are you referring to the extended swim platform?

If so, I havn't heard about a mat yet although there are custom carpet kits available. I have also heard the carpet kits are hampered a bit by the flow/see thru holes in the middle of the swim platform.

Lemme know if you come up with something.

Does anyone know if Sea Ray have a Rubber Matt to Fit the Transom of a Sun Deck 200 as per what they do for the Fission and Select Boats?

Was thinking of applying some kind of anti-skid paint to my swim platform. Has anyone used any with good luck? I'd like to match it up to my arctic white gel coat on a 2001 260DA.

SeaDek. I have it on my 400EC and next year my 270SD.
It wears really nice. No slipping/sliding. Very comfortable. This past weekend we had six boats out and I had several people sitting on my swim platform b/c they liked the feel of the SeaDek.
Next summer I will do the cockpit area with SeaDek on my 400EC. I love it. Hope that helps.

I have been looking at woven vinyl that would be snapped in at all times....
