I was planning on running an isolator for my twin batteries. I thought it would have been an easy job with about $60.00 of wire, but it turns out that all of my common wires (Alternator, and House wires) attach at the starter and not my battery switch. This means I would need a LOT more wire to run across the back of the boat to my switch. And moving the switch to the other side isn't an option with my trim pump being connected to the common on my battery switch on that side. I think this project is going to take a lot more thought and planning, and might be saved for cooler days as it's already record temps here in Florida.

The boat runs fine as is, even though the isolator would be better. I may just take the money and sink it into easier projects like an on-board charger, new Bimini top, or a better VHF antenna.

We head over the Beer Can quite a few times a year. Maybe we'll see you out there sometime.

you could wire it across your batt switch. this way the batt your NOT USING will be getting a charge and the one you are using will get its charge from the original wiring.

Hopefully heading there this coming Sunday! Just look for an old SeaRay and yell HOWIE!
We usually anchor near the north end near all the Pilons.

Took me a minute to see what your saying. Hardest part is separating the starter to battery 1 and the Alternator to the common. I could get a bridge and run that to battery 2. But I'm not sure if the assesorey draw will travel back through to battery 1 through the alternator. I'll have to think about it... My alternator, battery 1, and main battery switch is all on the opposite side of the starter. And right now they are all connected at the starter.

So far I've connected the float from my rear bilge pump directly to Battery 1 my starting battery. And I have my Alternator / Starter wired to the batt switch common lead. I ran the memory lead from my stereo to Battery 2. My wires are all confusing. Being an old boat from Illionois there's no telling how many owners have changed the wires around. Hard to say what's even factory at this point.

Later I'll get an off switch for Battery 2 so I can kill all power and move the other 2 accessory wires over to battery 2 and the starter over to battery 1 and the Alternator on the common. Then I'll spring for an onboard charger.

For now I've been re teaking the wood and hitting it with a few coats of wax.
