Looking for recommendations for a surveyor in the Austin or Dallas TX area. Looking to conduct engine (cummins) and hull survey in the next few weeks

Thanks, The boat we are looking at is in Austin. Any feed back on any of the above? We aren't familiar with the area and want to make sure we get a good survey.

I've used David Davis for my 420DA and he was very thorough, patient, and answered TONS of questions from a very nervous and skittish buyer :)smt001) and would recommend him. I just don't know if he covers Austin.

I've met Casey Auten and he seems VERY knowledgeable about 48 Sundancers and in fact, has owned 3 and currently owns a 2009 with pods that's for sale. Had a very long conversation with him about what to look for. He thinks the 48 is one of SR's finest boats.

Dennis Gibbs has been a fixture in the North Texas area for ever. I haven't used him but he seems to have a good reputation.

Thanks!

We are actually looking at a 47 Sedan Bridge. There are so few clean 48's available and we would rather not have a boat with Pods. Price points of the 48's have been going up over the last few months.

Thanks,

Any suggestions for a Cummins engine survey. The Houston Cummins dealer wants over $1100 in mileage charges to get to Austin.

Yes, they seemed unsure on a marine survey. I will be following up with them in the morning now that I have more info from the Houston location.

I used Land and Sea Marine in La Marque for my Engine service, maybe they will do a survey, but I'm guessing the mileage would be crazy but worth a shot, they are well respected.

Cummins Southern Plains in Austin isn't trained for marine service work. They've quoted me very high rates to "come try to figure out" what has been going on with my boat.
Cummins Southern Plains in Houston has been great to work with for parts but I don't have any experience with them for service.
I primarily use Platinum Marine for my service work, I'm not sure that I'd recommend them for a survey though.
I'll check a few people on the dock to see who they used, I bought mine in Cleveland area so I haven't used a local surveyor.

Update -
One recommendation from a dock neighbor is Jim Merritt - 512-731-5708

Jim was the plant manager of C&C Yachts for many years and was a consultant to Pearson Yachts for their balsa core technology. He has designed and built many wooden boats, both power and sail. He is presently a yacht surveyor in the Austin area.

Thanks, This is the vibe I got from the Austin location. Looks like for an engine survey we will have to pay the Houston store to drive up or some one from the coast.

If it's on Travis and you want someone to do a walkthrough, I can most likely get one of my dock neighbors that lives in the area to do it for you. I won't be there this weekend or I'd offer to do it myself.

Current plan is to arrive in Austin on 3/1 and survey the boat the following day. I would be curious if you know the boat.

Yes, what marina and boat name? I'm at The Reserve at Lake a Travis. Happy to help out if I can and am up there most weekends.
