Has anyone ever installed a whole boat surge & electrical protector. I was considering installing 2 of these in a Sundancer 340 and wondered if anyone saw a downside.

The only thing I can see is that it is not Marine Grade. I would install it in the bilge, just before the 110 wire goes into the circuit panel.

Why do you think you need it?

I believe my Marina has power issues. It is an older marina, I have lost my AC unit this year and Cabin Refrigerator. Both are original to my 2003.5 so they may just be old, but we moved the boat to this marina a year and a half ago. Before I put the New AC unit in, i was thinking of protecting my investment. Anodes also go quick in the Marina.

I have a similar unit (maybe the same one?) in my RV, and it did catch a hot/neutral reversed in an older RV park last year. The monitor wouldn't allow power to pass while in an error state. The camp host confirmed that was the case, closed that slot, and moved us to another slot that was wired correctly. The next day, they were out re-wiring the pedestal.
While we could have chosen to ignore the condition (that's what the little switch on the display allows you to do), it's nice to know that you can instantly tell if things are as they should be. Also, you can watch the voltage rise and fall as the A/C kicks on, giving you the ability to shut things down if the park/marina is unable to supply enough power to operate the heavy-draw items. As you may already know, electric motors can become "upset" if the startup voltage dips too low.

If you do install this, definitely do not locate it in your bilge/engine room....

I was looking at that one and this one as well: https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Surge-Guard-50-amp-Permanent-RV-Surge-Protector-p/55-2727.htm

But decided it could not be protected enough from our harsh environment to make it viable. The isolated pug is definitely the way to go. But the best is to install an Isolation Transformer that will contain the boat completely and protect the dock was well. But their big boat bucks and a PITA to locate and install.
