Pulled the runabout on Friday and about a mile from the launching ramp, and the surge brakes locked up. Tried the usual "back up/pull forward" routine to get brakes to release. No dice, so I just disconnected the brake line from the master cylinder since the lake house was only a couple of miles away.
Single axle, drum brakes - Titan Model 60 Multifit Coupler. I suspect the coupler is the source of the problem and I am thinking replacing the whole thing since it is 7 years old. Looks like price in in the $150-$160 range (cheap insurance).
Anyone have a similar experience with these units?

Hey Dockmate,

Sorry to hear that. At least with our waverunner trailers - no brakes!

It must be jammed badly if the old "give it a jerk of forward/reverse/forward" didn't unstick it. With that V10 tow vehicle, I'm surprised you noticed!

We were coming up McCoy Road which has a speed limit of 25mph and speed breakers about every 100 yards - so to be honest, I really didn't notice until glancing in the mirror and seeing smoke boiling from the left tire!

It is pretty common for the wheel brake cylinders to seize up. Try backing the brake cylinder adjusting screw right off, in.
If you do end up replcing the wheel brake cylinders you might want to look at stainless steel cylinders.
Good luck.
