Does anybody know if window sunshades are available for boats? Specifically my 330...
The removable, fold up kind- like the ones you'd put in your car?

I can't use something that snaps on, as my quick cover utilizes those snaps.
Thanks!

Have your cover snaps (caps) replaced with "gypsy" snaps, they are a cap/stud type that will allow your window shade to be snapped over the cover snaps. I am currently making a window shade for my boat from a mesh material called phifertex.

How about privacy curtains? I am looking for a material that I can cut and sew to size, then snap in place inside the bridge windows for privacy. Any suggestions? Phifertex shades 70%. I'm looking for 95 - 100% blockage out of a similar material.

Phifertex Plus!!! 90 - 95% coverage. Found it on my own.

Here is a shot of the window shade I made from Phifertex....90% sunblock.

Obviously on the exterior.

John,

I've been puzzled about the same project (bridge panels) to have either privacy curtains or maybe even tints. Tinting is my last resort as I do night cruising and poor viz cruising quite often. Thus, a snap on curtains is my primary approach. What's your idea on how to have it installed?

I currently have very nice and slick look and I don't want to have 100 snaps all of a sudden clutter the bridge on the inside. It will look awkward with the curtains off. I was thinking either some type of very thin railing, Velcro, or maybe even zippered solution.

Hey, Quint, how about a pic from the inside looking out to get an idea of how much privacy I might get at night with some lighting on inside?

Alex.

I honestly don't think that a line of snaps along the top and another along the bottom will even be noticeable when you aren't directly looking at them. Boats have these features. I intend to cut out sections that will cover each panel of eisenglass from top to bottom, and sew them together in one, long panel like the lower windshield cover, except inside. Then, I intend to place a snap at each corner (of a rounded section) - it'll be about one snap at each corner of eisenglass panel. That's not too many. The manufacturer calls for one snap per corner not to exceed every 3 feet. The one down below doesn't have very many snaps at all.

I just put up snaps to hold this wire package up. I intend to outfit the shade with gypsy's to snap this on top if required (double snaps, if I remember correctly). Also, this pic shows the reason for the need of privacy:

If you have any pix, please share. I didn't do extensive research on this yet, but preliminary scan doesn't comeback with anything decent that I can see applying on my boat. Hopefully, this thread will help me get more ideas.

Alex,

I'll keep you updated. I've asked for a sample.

I have snap in sun shades for my 330 that I would be willing to sell. They work great but I honestly never use them.

Can't find any pics from inside John. I will say, if interior is illuminated at night, you can see inside the boat from outside.

Why don't you use them? I'd like to have them, but is it the time and trouble to take off/store/put back up, something else? How/where do they snap? What's the material?

I'm not exactly sure of the material. It appears to be a very heavy tightly woven screen. They were on the boat when i bought it out of Florida. Made more sense down there. I have since replaced the 5 canvas pieces that make up the front windshield with polycarbonate and when doing so replaced the snaps with a track so I can no longer attach the screens without modification. I may modify so I can start using them or I may just sell them. I'm up in the air. On that note I also have a full canvas set for sale in blue that is lightly used and the 5 pieces that make up the front windshield plus the strip that goes in the track all in black in like new condition. Bought last spring, babied for one season. All for sale.

I'm thinking about Pfifer Sheerweave 4000 now.

John I'm looking into shades for the bridge to keep the heat and uv rays down , has anyone looked at sunbrella shade mesh? I used it to make a shade for the cockpit last season, it blocks 95% of UV and you can see through it . Maybe Quint can elaborate more on this material? It is also mold, mildew resistant. I took measurements last week and thought about adding another "rail" along side the rail that the eisenglass slides into and sew the male end (not sure of the terminology ) onto the sunbrella and slide the shades in and out as needed. Any thoughts? Worries?

Have not used Sunbrella mesh but would like to see it. Very happy with Phifertex, it's very durable and easy to work with.

I like your rail approach if there is room, and you don't mind attaching it with screws to your boat.

Is there space to sew velcro to inside top of eisenglass panels to secure mesh.....or maybe add snaps?

I would suggest sewing a zipper between the mesh and rail for ease of installation and removal. Here is a pic from my shop of a mocked up rail system:

My inner layer of the rooftop is partially using the same tracks. They work very well. I was thinking on having combination of the same tracks, zippers and velcro for my installation.

I didn't have a chance to discuss this in detail with a canvas shop to get a full understanding and have good picture on how it would look like.

P.S.
I like your machine, Quint.

Why put zippers on the welt? What advantage does it give you? Isn't it easy enough to just slide the shade down the rail ? Maybe I'm missing something? I don't know if I'd like the look of the zippers when the shades are off

Skip the zippers if it is easy enough to slide in and out.

Some application entail a few curves and long runs of rail, making sliding in or out a bit of a chore.
