Sundeck 240 Steering issues

Hello Everyone.
Greatings from the Gold Coast Australia.
We have had our 2001 Sundeck 240 for a number of years and we simply love the Old Girl.
I do have an issue with my sterring and wondering if anyone can help though.
The power steering is fine and steers with no effort but the steering wheel does have a bit of play.
I have read on some of the feeds that steering goes very stiff and hard to turn and therfore the rack & pinion cable needs replacing.
Mine is not like that...I just want my steering to be precise in turning.
Would anone have any advice on what could be the issue?

I have I bit of play in mine only when the boat is running. When on plane it's fine when putting around I have some play when in a no wake zone

Thereis a large nut on each end of the cable where it connects ro the rack and the steering tube may want to check those

Most likely it is always nut on the outdrive end. Helm end can vary but most commonly do.

Teleflex says 3" play in rotation is normal, it's not a sports car.
