Hi,
I recently bought my first Sea Ray (a 2006 Sundeck 240) and have been having a blast with it. I have one problem that I hope somebody can help with. The drain from the ski locker to the bilge is clogged. Everytime it rains or I wash the boat it fills with water and I have to use a manual bilge pump to pump it out. I have tried cleaning out the drain with tweezers, a toothbrush, and forcing water through it...nothing has worked. I assume it is a one way valve, but I can't see it. Is there a way to remove this valve to clean it out? Or does anybody have a suggestion? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It is not a valve, but a simple pipe. Remove every thing from the ski locker and then you should be able to get a shop vac on the pipe and suck what ever is clogging it. You may have to use a coat hanger to loosen it 1st. May also want to check and make sure your gas tank has not move forward and is blocking the pipe.

On my 2002 240 Sundeck, this was just a piece of PVC pipe and there was no one way valve. It should drain right to the bilge when it is open. But also be aware, because this pipe is higher than the floor a small amount of water will always accumulate at the bottom of the locker.

If you feel the pipe itself is clogged try running a long screw driver thru the pipe.

I am not sure there is a drain in ski locker. I'm almost positive there is bilge pump installed behind the wall on front of water tank. there should be small inspection plate on that wall, but to replace pump or float switch it needs to be removed. maybe it is only blown fuse?

What kind of boat are you talking about:huh: There is a drain in the ski locker. This makes no sense?????

newer sundecks have a small bilge pump installed inside ski lockers not just drain pipe to bilge. not sure if it applies to only to models with bimini top and full canvas but sea ray could not afford to leave open pipe to engine box and feed carbon monoxide from engine to cockpit (via ski locker) with canvas closed

Thanks for the help. It is a huge help to know it is not a one way valve...the reason I thought it was one is that when I tried sticking a screwdriver through the hole to unclog it I was hitting something solid. I had assumed this was a valve.

Chuck, you mentioned to check and see if the fuel tank has moved forward. Maybe I was hitting the fuel tank. Where can I access the fuel tank to see if it has moved...or move it back if necessary?

Thanks a ton for the help.

If you open the rear seat to access the bilge you will see the tank in front of the engine. Should be able to see if it can move. I heard of one that had come loose and slide forward. It was pushing against the drain pipe end would not let it drain.

Interesting... So how many pumps does the new SDs have. Is the 240SD/260SD still self bailing cockpits?

well I can say for sure my '06 ( which is what the OP has ) does not have a bilge pump in the ski locker. More than likely just something stuck in the drain pipe. And as Dave said, no one way valve and there is always a little water standing.

My '04 270SD had another pump in the ski locker/cockpit storage. The manual referred to it as a “high water bilge pump” it’s activation was supposed to trigger a high water alarm. I don’t remember for sure but I think there was still a drain hole leading to the bilge. I don't see how it would function as a high water bilge pump if the compartment was not connected some how to the bilge. The pump was protected by a starboard box so it wouldn’t get beat up. You wouldn’t know it was there unless you looked or read the manual. :smt043

I doubt that CO from engine to cockpit (via the ski locker) with canvas closed was an issue because once the canvas is up everything is inside anyway including the engine. On my SD there was the head floor drain and a drain in the floor storage area under the little berth(berth did have a factory CO monitor). Those two drains either went to the cockpit storage/ski locker or bilge.

not sure about all models - need to check on that, but definitely 280 sundeck has one bilge pump inside cockpit floor locker (I think they call it fwd sump) and second one inside engine box, and I think there is also third one for hi-water alarm only - but not sure about this one,I maybe thinking about different model

Thanks for the help guys. Yesterday I took the deck off to get a look at the fuel tank, and sure enough it was flush up against the forward bulkhead, blocking the drain. Now all I have to do is burn enough fuel to make it light enough to move back into place. Luckily, burning fuel isn't something I have a problem with :)

Burn some for me and take bunches of pictures (Grin) Glad we could help.

Side note: Check out the new 260SD today and boy did you lose storage space. The center storage is only about half the size and half as deep as the older 240/260SD. I sure hope there is some kind of bilge pump because you can't see the bottom of the area anymore?????

silly question....

On my 2010 185 Sport... there is a removable drain plug tethered to the ski locker drain plug.
Why would I want to have the ski locker drain plugged? Only think I can think of would be for fishing (I don't fish)... or maybe a 100lbs of ice...
I leave this plug open, I assume that proper running would have this open (the the main bilge)

Did you ever resolve this issue?

I have a similar issue, but looks like something was actually glued to the bilge (engine) side of the PVC drain (I took a photo)!?

The thread is 5 years old...almost. When I had your model the pvc just went thru the bulkhead and the gas tank was on the other side. Water just ran under the tank from the pvc pipe

Mine is clearly blocked. I have pictures. Can I send them to you to take a look? Apparently they are two large for this forum.... And of course Sea Ray just wants me to take my boat to a dealer!?!?

Yes of course... you could also use Microsoft office to resize them
