Hello,

I own a 1988 Sundancer 270. this is my first boat and first Sea Ray. I want to protect the boat for the winter so that nothing inside it freezes. I am looking for information on how to check the contents of clean water and gray water tanks, and how to empty them. The boat is out of the water and I cannot turn on the indicators.
I will be grateful for help and tips on how to do this.

Best regards

Clean water?
Run the faucets and sprayers until it’s empty.
Add antifreeze and run them again until antifreeze flows from each faucet and sprayer.

Gray or black water,
Did you pump out before hauling the boat?

There are multiple systems that need winterized depending on exactly what systems are on your boat. Best research is probably on YouTube for videos of your exact systems. Which systems are on your boat and which still need winterized?
1. Engines - Do you have inboard or I/O?
2. Generator
3. Air conditioner
4. Fresh water system and holding tank
5. Hot water heater
6. Grey water (sinks) - All sink water typically runs out the side drains
7. Black water (toilet) - Does the toilet use fresh water from holding tank or pump in lake water through seacock?
8. Bilges & bilge pumps
9. Seacocks

Indicators can be turned on anytime - in or out of the water does not matter. Do you even have an indicator for your fresh water tank? Usually, in smaller boats, it's just for the black water tank.

As Wine pointed out (luckily he posted before I started typing all that!), there are quite a few things that need attention. Also as noted, it might be best - atleast this year - for you to hire someone.

BUT, there are PLENTY of threads/information here on this forum that you can search and read if you do want to tackle it yourself. If you're going to do it, you owe it to yourself to do the research and read the threads that have this information.

As far as checking the level in the tanks, though... just look at them. Sometimes, a flashlight, held tight to the side, will help.
