Sundancer How long is too long

Another thing I forgot to mention is the 52 is a QUIET boat running. The 58 even quieter. I didn't realize how much nicer it is on a long trip compared to the 400DA due to the lack of engine noise.

Awe now that's not fair, I have Detroit's - quit isn't in my vocabulary.

I was out for half a day on my buddy's 52 Hat with 8V Detroit's. I was worn out at the end of the day with the noise. Back in the early 90's a friend had a 630SSS with the 16V Detroit engines - now that thing was noisy. But we didn't know what quiet was then.

What? Did you say something? Hmm... :)

Noise comes in different forms - a well tuned engine on song? Well that noise is music - But I can't, at my age, listen to Nickelback for six or eight hours at level 7 even though I'd like to.

Right, but Metallica may be possible. Although I am pretty much Jimmy Buffet these days.

Actually my boat isn't too bad. I have great sound proofing installed and you can actually talk at a normal level while at the helm, even though I am standing on the ER.

SO GLAD to have discovered the "Golden Age" of diesel Sundancers.

I can't tell you how very pleased I am with the 450DA.

Unlikely I will ever move up, as I have serious bridge height and beam limitations to get to my dock.

Owned the 10 Meter for 21 years - hope to do the same with the 450 :)

BEST !

My 46 express cruises as fast as a DB. I cruise at 22-23 MPH or 20 Knts. Most 40+ boat's do not cruise at 25knts unless it's an Ocean or Viking. Most Sea Ray's cruise 20-22 knts at best if your running the 80% throttle rule.

The longest I have stayed on my boat is two full weeks. Spent time on the hook and at marina's and that's with my wife and dog. I wouldn't have an issue staying longer, just haven't done it with this boat.
The above isn't entirely true - our 58 Sundancer will cruise at 25 - 27 knots so 29 mph at 85% load

Ive had a Sundancer style boat now for many years 20+... Coming up on buying forever boat... Debating on 42 to 44 Sundancer or flybridge If I did a flybridge I would prob go a little bigger. Def doing diesels as we love to travel. Just not sure if I can used to the slow speed of a flybridge boat.

How many nights is the most you spent on a Sundancer?
The longest trip my wife and I have done on our 44 is a few 10-day trips. We had another couple for part of one of those and it was fine. The second stateroom and head helps a lot when there's another couple but everyone should pack light because there's not much cabin storage. A bridge boat would solve that problem.

As for performance, I cruise at 23 knots 2200rpm and get about +/- .80mpg, depending on current and sea conditions.
Since you're a couple of hours away in NJ, I might as well plug my boat, which is listed for sale in this sites classifieds section. Good Luck.

he doesn't have pods. They're just beefy engines.

Ah, didn't see the 900 Man's. My friend has a 55 Viking (twin 1300's) and he runs circles around me. Cruises @ 28knt's on most days. And why in my original post, left out Viking as well.

But what does he burn a Hr...

60-80 GPH, But he can afford it. But also he doesn't mind running with me ...

I think he said 24knts is ~60 and 28+ is close to 75-80. My other friends boat, 48 Ocean is, ~60 at 25Knts also. I burn 38-40 at 20knts.

For me too 31 years this year... Love every min of it. Don't buy the boat if you can't afford the fuel. I like to travel and use mine. I put on around 50/60 hrs a year. Let's see I keep flip flopping on size and boat. The sport fishers are nice. Because you get to people watch on the dock while watching a good movie.

Right, just read a good article on JB in latest issue of Boat US. He was a lot of fun to be around and will be missed by many.
