Hi all, new to the site. Could someone explain how the cockpit/helm stereo remote control actually works? What sort of input does it connect to to allow remote control of the various functions? I just bought my boat and still have to do some poking around with the stereo wiring. The remote doesnt work but perhaps its because the head unit is not the original?(it came with an Aiwa). The 6 cockpit speakers are all functional (4 powered from the Aiwa and 2 from the original Clarion APA 2030 amp). The inside berth bow speakers do not work since there is not an amp connected to them. How does the original stock 6 cockpit/2 berth speaker system function (8 total spkr system)? It seems as though if the cockpit speakers are turned up loud then the 2 bow berth speakers would be perhaps TOO loud for people inside?? Any explanation on the operation of the stereo system is appreciated.

I had the original Clarion stereo (cassette unit) and replaced it with an upgraded Clarion marine unit. The remote utilizes a DIN plug that connects to the stereo unit. I eliminated the amp and hooked my speakers up as follows directly to the stereo output.
"Rear" for 4 cockpit speakers and "Front" for the cabin speakers. I use the fade and volume control on the stereo to adjust output of each set of speakers.

My guess is the remote will not work as the Clarion head unit was replaced. To regain this functionality, you'll need a Clarion head unit. Sorry.

Thanks for the answers to my stereo remote question. Saves me the time in tracing wires and banging up my knuckles!
