Hello Club,
New to forum and looking at buying a 99 270 SE. Any advice or concerns with this model? Some things I know I want to upgrade. No AC currently that will need to change. Any advice on what is best avenue for AC?
Also, motor is the 5.7 with about 800 hours. Seems reasonable for the year, but looking for confirmation. I’ve seen a few other 270s for sale and the motor seems small compared to others I’ve seen. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated.

Good luck in your hunt! My thought on the AC is that it's not the easiest upgrade. Nor the cheapest. You're looking at thru-hulls, pump, plumbing, duct work, etc. If it's a must have on your shopping list I'd suggest looking at boats that already have it vs. planning to add it later. My two cents only of course.

And welcome! Lot of great info around here.

Thanks for the info. The plan is to have it at the marina for some overnights, so I may need to look at portable AC to get us through the nights. I am assuming I can set up top and run exhaust hose through the camper enclosure and it would keep us cool enough.

My personal opinion is that if you want Air Conditioning then get a boat with Air Conditioning. Unless the boat is really inexpensive and you are handy enough to install it the cost of adding may be prohibitive. There are many components including the AC unit, ducting, control box, raw water pump and plumbing (including a lower thru hull for water pickup and a side thru hull for discharge). I think portables will eventually just frustrate you and be in the way on this type of boat.

As far as the engine goes the only way to tell is to load it up and try it. If you plan on traveling with 4 people then make sure there are 4 aboard when trialing. I would think the 5.7 will be sufficient but may leave you wanting a little more power depending on your use. I don't recall many people wishing they had less power in the boat.

Also keep in mind the SE is the "narrow" version designed for trailering where as the SDA model in the same year would have a larger beam.
