Wish they would come out with a BROW sun shade for the helm area
heats up to 100 with the sun beating down on my polycarbonite panels...
window tint will not work, outside snap in covers are a PITA, so a sunshade i think would help alot
just dreaming i guess:huh: HOT HOT HOT.....

My windshield faces almost due south in at my dock so I know how hot it can get under that canvas.
I've often thought about making something out of cardboard tri-fold poster board and tin foil, but have hesitated because of what the damp marine environment would do to the cardboard. If I came across something less susceptible to the dampness that was easy to cut in to shape I would give it a try.
In the meantime I try to remember to leave something open just a bit to act as a vent.

Anything can be custom made... Might look just damn ugly though!!

Maybe so…….or maybe nice as long as it was in line with the aesthetics of the boat….fiberglass of course…...

Also leave open a little of the rear canvas for air flow…….

I just cover mine with car screen shades. Those foil like folding shades you use on car wind screens on dash boards.

This thread is interesting to me. This one and others I have read shows that most people do not have a covered dock. Is this the case? I couldn't imagine keeping my boat docked without one. It is nice to not worry about sun and storms.

I had a piece of sunbrella made matching my canvas that snapped on. Looked nice, clean and made a world of difference in keeping the dash and cockpit from getting as hot. As far as covered slips....I've been boating my whole life between Michigan and Florida and I've never even seen a marina with covered slips. I know they're out there, but not very common.

Lucky, that was nicely done! I am one of the lucky ones, boating in Texas and OK, covered slips are the norm. Not sure if it is because of the hail storms or heat, but I’m glad. It is nothing fancy, just corrugated steel roofs, which is nice to listen to rain storms! However, my boat faces due west and from about 3:00 on, it gets hot on my deck and the cockpit area warms up. I may look into something like what you have done.

I made a shade fo the glass window on my boat using Phifertexplus. It is a 90% sunblock but still allows some visibility.

I am going to look at my dock neighbors 340DA and think about a way to easily attach the shade on the inside of the boat (for the isenglass).

Although a bit of a PITA, the advantage to exterior mounting, is the UV protection of your glass (isenglass, poly, etc.).

Good idea……i like your shade idea……i would want lighter due to the fact night driving could be a factor

I would never drive the boat with the shade in place.

Very neat looking....can you go out with it on.....see through it....?? or remove everytime you boat.....?

We have some covered slips in Orange Beach, AL. The covered ones are going for 3 times the rate of the non covered and only one marina offers them. A few condos at the Grander come with covered slips.
