Yesterday, we had a couple of intense thunderstorms pass us by. We were lucky and didn't have to button up while anchored out on the river enjoying a great summer holiday Monday (for us North-siders). These storms can spring up quickly, and I'm glad to have Sirius Weather running on my boat to track these things. One advisory yesterday warned of 2" hail in Southern Lake Erie... that wouldn't be good for the canvas, glass, or gelcoat!

Here's what some of the passing storms looked like on my display (after they have passed us to the East):

And off to the east, here is what the cloud tops looked like as the t-storm grew vertically:

Wow, that last picture is pretty impressive.

Down here, we too had thunderstorms build over the Potomac river on Sunday, right out of nowhere. You could see the clouds all coming together and billowing, somewhat like your picture. They look very cool, when you're at a safe distance!

sunday four people were swimming from thier boat in saginaw bay ,the small cell we watched from the other side (20 miles away) blew thier boat off anchor and when they were rescued by a passer by,clinging to one life jacket one of them was under water for quite a while. The rescuer said there wasnt another boat within 2 miles of them. That is how fast a storm can move in ,even a small fast moving cell.

Kodos for sirius weather. First thing we turn on. I keep one screen set to sirius and play it safe.
