our beautiful boat was left in a slip (not on a lift) since April 4, we took her out today and YUCk!! oh my gosh, it's bad. We have scrubbed with a gel paste and a bathroom scrubby but the hull is still stained (the water was apparently very dirty). ANY suggestions would be so appreciated. once we have her back to shiny and clean we'll wax and wax and ordering a lift. quite shocking. Thanks VERY much!!

:smt100Thank you Black Pearl. have you or anyone else reading this used Star Brite? A google search resulted in rave reviews for this product - just spray it on and watch the water line run down and off the boat...supposedly. Would love to hear the real scoop. Thanks very much !:smt100

On Off hull cleaner. Diluted with soap and water. Soft brush on, let sit. Rinse, rinse, rinse...
It's an acid cleaner so be very careful. Wax after...

This below guide is only for the lower part of your hull, water scum line and down if you do not have bottom paint yet kept your boat in the water and now the white hull is stained. This will get the hull back to a bright white color.

#1) Buy a gallon of muriatic acid from your local farm supply store, under $5. Also buy a cheap weed sprayer, the type with the white plastic container with a couple of gallon capacity and a PLASTIC tip, don’t get the one with the metal tip. These are under $20 at home depot. Buy a brush with a long handle and stiff bristles, not a sponge that would melt, about $10.

#2) Put the acid in the sprayer and pump it to pressurize the container. Not on your trailer, on old stands or in a sling held up by the bow and stern tie down hooks spray the full strength muriatic acid on the hull. You may need to do some mild scrubbing in stubborn areas with the brush.

#3) Rinse with water then go back and touch up any areas that are not to your satisfaction.

#4) Discard all the stuff you used, the sprayer, brush, the cloths you were wearing.

Not only will your boat hull bottom be clean and white your sinuses will be clear as can be.

The smell is terrible. It’s best to have some wind and make sure you are always upwind. I start on the downwind corner of the hull and work my way upwind.
I do not bottom paint. I do the above mid season then again at the end of the season.

Let us know how it goes.

If you use any of the acid cleaners in a sprayer, wear a respirator or other suitable mask. That spray becomes air borne and you don't want to breathe it in. The guys at our marina that detail boats for a living always wear repirators when using that stuff.

Wear eye protection too. I used muriatic acid to lower pH in my swimming pool and it is some nasty stuff.
