OK just purchased the Garmin 740S for the boat. Question I have is I will eventually have more options to work along with it but trying to decide whether to get the radar or weather & audio XM satellite receiver. I have had radar before and would say I probabbly used it 30%of the time. I know, you never know when you really need it. PLus for now the weather images will overlay on the chart plotter while the (correct me if I am wrong) radar will not. Just asking some opinions. Thanks

I have a Garmin 3210, a few years old, but the radar does overlay on the GPS map display...

I'm loving the radar btw! And I can't see paying a monthly fee for a weather feed.

Well that a point I didn't even think about. I looked at a 3210 (love the 10" screen) but went with the 740s due to the placement and price. New in the box from a private party. Thanks

A little late in answering... but:

I have the 3210 and use the XM Weather subscription. I find the weather invaluable during Florida Summers, but it's not really needed year round. I like it mostly for hot summer afternoons when a tiny cloud turns into a monster within minutes. I use the audio when everyone else is still sleeping below to catch up on the news. The weather subscription comes in two flavors; I chose the mariner for watches and warnings, sea state, waves and wind. Important on a long transit offshore.
